Is it because they secretly want to experiment with homosexuality?

Well there's lately a lot of evidence going around proving that a significant number of homophobic men tend to have homosexual desires and feelings. If you think about it, it makes sense. Why would a straight man care if another man is gay? Women usually don't have problems with straight or gay men. I wouldn't find it offensive if a gay man thought I was attractive, if anything it would make me feel good about myself. There's a lot of women who've told me I was attractive that I didn't find attractive at all, is there really a difference?

Our society is just really messed up and hypocritical. Like that whole thing about guys not wanting to say whether another guy is "attractive" or not. I mean come on, obviously you know if someone is good looking or has an attractive personality or not, it doesn't mean you wanna have sex with them.

How do you explain things like prison sex and "experimentation" among straight guys? These things happen and are not uncommon. People need to be more comfortable with themselves.

Haha this reminds me of those who say, "Why do Atheists pick on Christians and God so much? Is it because they secretly want to be Christians"? I have never said that.... I don't know if you were intentionally mocking those who said those things, but it is quite a redundant question.

Fear of coming out of the closet themselves...

If they harass homosexuals they believe they appear less homosexual themselves..

Having a group to hate makes them feel superior..

If they can make people look at the perceived faults of another their faults may be over looked..

Lack of education..

There are many reasons each more lame that the previous reason..

Ignorance

bingo....

going out of your way to hate someone... means you need to take a deep dark look into yourself...
I don't think it is ignorance anymore these days... it is more, insecurity and self hate.. because they find men attractive or women if you're a lesbian..
I think most of the population is bisexual.. attracted to PEOPLE.. regardless of sex... society puts labels on people, and causes people to repress sexual feelings... just because you've experimented or had sex with someone of the same sex doesn't make you gay.. it makes you human... what you prefer is what your label is... if u are to label people..
I think haters are trying to dodge labels.. and take things a step too far by acting out... knowing that they might have seen a guy they thought was attractive.. and hate themselves because of it.. and want to hide it as best they can by being ANTI....

Because they point out other people for being different to keep the attention away from their own downfalls and plain old ignorance....
