Try http://www.daff.gov.au/aqis/cat-dogs/other - click on birds.

It states NZ on there .. so why not send it to NZ - then NZ to Australia?

it states on here - http://www.aqis.gov.au/icon32/asp/ex_casecontent.asp?intNodeId=8191925&intCommodityId=6088&Types=none&WhichQuery=Go+to+full+text&intSearch=1&LogSessionID=0

- only household pet birds whose owners who are moving from New Zealand to take up residence in Australia are eligible.

Is there anyone that can have your bird for a month or two there...?

Hope this helps a bit.

There are good reasons that the Australian Government bans the importation of certain animals, and if you're not prepared to abide by these bans, perhaps you should stay behind and let the more law-abiding members of your family move to Australia and live in peace away from you and the parrot.

it sounds difficult. Restrictions were put in place to stop the illegal taking of parrots / birds from the wild. Speak to your vet it used to be you got paper-work to prove the parrot was born in captivity. if Australia will not take him I don't know what you can do

I'm sorry to tell you that it is impossible. Because of the bird flu threat no bird is allowed to travel that distances.
All I can tell you is that I really know how you feel. I moved from South Africa to NZ and had to leave me dog. A rhodesian ridgeback. Slept in my bed even though she was a large dog! Hahaha!! It breaks your heart...:-(
