Are you saying that Jesus wiped his bum on a leaf....oh that is too human...and do you think he might have had a pee as well....how disgusting...perhaps they just went down to the river and gave the old bum a good wash in the Jordan. I don't suppose he ever got an erection do you? It's amazing what people can believe if they truly want too.

Well, even though by our standards people back then weren't very sanitary, they actually were.

If I'm not mistaken, after getting rid of bodily wastes, people rinsed off with water.

Perhaps they did use cloths and then wash them and re-use, but it still would have been pretty sanitary. Immediately afterwards, the cloths would have been boiled in water with herbs, and then laid out in the sun to dry.

The only time people would have used leaves is if nothing else was available.

Well, according to PBS, every Centurion carried his own rags on a stick to wipe himself with. In Boy Scouts we used leaves. I think paper then would have been too rare.

Not sure exactly, but in olden times they would just use their hands, which is why they used to shake at the forearms, instead of hands. I also read once that they used their left hands to whipe, so that's why it's customary to shake with the right.

The Romans used sticks with cotton wrapped around the end. They dunked it in a bucket of vinegar in between uses. I have no clue what other cultures did, but i would think cloth that was rinsed periodically, or leaves if you were poorer.
