It's ok to breed red and black Dobermans together right? Will it pose any coloring issues? (I'm not looking to breed them... I'm just wondering.. heck, I wouldn't since I don't even know this probably simple question) ;)

No, no problems w/that. I know most/all reputable breeders avoid dilutes...and especially white. I'm glad you're not breeding, especially in a hurry. Edit: I know you're not actually breeding, but I wanted to mention: Black is dominant and red is recessive. There wouldn't be any reds *unless* the black/tan 'carried' red. However, the puppies would all 'carry' red and when bred to a red or another red 'carrier', reds would be produced. Sorry for the ramble, lol.

Chetco: Yes, it can be carried for many generations. It's interesting. I breed fancy mice on a small scale, and w/their short lifespans (sadly, 1.5 to 3 years), you can quickly see just how long a recessive gene can be carried. A breeder was shocked to get some brokens (white spotting, also recessive) out of their mice w/'self' pedigrees. She discovered brokens extremely far back in the pedigrees. Recessives will never show until they're doubled up (one from dad and one from mom). Until then, they stay 'hidden'.

With my Black female and Red male, we had 9 puppies, of which 3 were red. My female had no red in her background for at least 4 generations. The male was an imported dog, and colors were not listed on his pedigree.

to my knowledge its ok.. black is not a dilute. I cant quite remember if red is considered a dilute in the breed or not? I dont think any problems would come from those 2 colors tho.

Hey Pal,

Why do you think that would pose a Problem

Have you ever seen Doberman with red and black patches LOL

Do not worry dobermans are mostly pure bred and if you breed two pure Bred Dobs you'll get Good litter do not worry about colour at all It would be either black or red

Hope that helps
Cheers!
