If you research their history, (they will not do that)..you will see that many of their dates came about from the founder of their religion with the help of the Pyramids..But, they say because of the signs that the Bible gives. They seem to forget that time isn't an issue with God..A thousand years is like a day and a day like a thousand years..
I think Jesus wouldn't return in secret..They dismiss the incredible way in which he will return..They have twisted the entire Bible..They say that their Bible is the most accurate and they will quote one or two scholars that agree..But, if you look up those scholars and research them..(which they don't do)...you will see all of the negative things the scholars have to say about their Bible. But, if you look up many Bible scholars and see what their thoughts of the JW's Bible is, they are very negative things to say about it. No scholars translated their Bible..only 5 people from their religion..two or 3 who only had high school educations..The others had no qualifications to translate the Bible. But, JW's believe whatever the WT tells them..
The first time I read a Bible other than the JW's Bible..I was blown away by the total differences in them..I thought WOW..It was like reading the Bible for the first time..
Many of their dates have been predicted and failed..but they will deny this..They will not own up to their past records..Many , many dates have been given, and proven to be false..1914 was orginally a date give for something else..but, that failed..so then they placed that date as the time Jesus returned..
But, like I said..JW' s probably have no idea, because they don't research for themselves..they take the WT as truth instead of the Bible.

In Mt. 24:3, Jesus was asked when his "coming" would take place.

The Greek word that some Bibles translate as "coming" is PAROUSIA. PAROUSIA literally means: "being alongside," or, a "presence."

But don't just take a JW's word for it:

Vine’s Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words (1981, Vol. 1, pp. 208, 209) states: "PAROUSIA . . . denotes both an arrival and a consequent PRESENCE with. . . . When used of the return of Christ, it signifies, not merely His momentary coming for His saints, but His PRESENCE WITH THEM FROM THAT MOMENT UNTIL HIS REVELATION AND MANIFESTATION TO THE WORLD."

In that same account, Jesus then described to his disciples events that would identify his PRESENCE:

Pestilence: Luke 21:11

Right after World War 1 (1914) more people died of the Spanish flu than had died of any disease epidemic in the history of mankind.

Famine: Mt. 24:7

Following World War I (1914) came the greatest famine in all history.

Wars: Mt.24:7

World War I of 1914 was much greater than all the major wars fought during the 2,400 years before 1914.

My guess would have been that it was the year the JWs started, but I looked it up, and that was 1872, so it must be as Aurthur, who likes beer, said. Something to do with WWI being the beginning of the Apocalypse. Personally, I think that the Apocalypse will be much worse than WWI.

Because that is when the kings in the line of David were restored to Jehovah's throne as described in Rev 12 and Rev 11:15.

Becuase in Matthew 24:3-51, all the signs that Jesus told to his disciples happened starting in 1914. For more info. www.watchtower.org

The Watchtower repeatedly predicted that Jesus would come back in 1914. They sometimes deny this false prophecy but I have copies of their literature from that time in which they do falsely prophesy. When Jesus did not come back as they had promised they had to cover themselves and came up with the explanation that Jesus had indeed come back just as they had said he would. Only thing was he had come back spiritually, not physically, to set up a spiritual rule here on earth. Thus, their prophecy was right after all. Most Jehovah's Witnesses have not read these old documents as I have and are misled about what really happened in 1914 (this will account for all of the thumbs down I expect to get).

In hindsight, most of humankind can see the historic upheaval that began with World War I. Jehovah's Witnesses believe that mankind in general has seen a wide range of specific signs since 1914, and that anyone can perceive these as significant without even opening a bible.

Yet the bible DOES comment upon it! Jesus foretold this specific collection of signs as evidence that his "presence" or so-called 'second coming' had arrived. Jehovah's Witnesses believe that "presence" to be Jesus' presence as the King of God's Kingdom.

(Matthew 24:3) disciples approached [Jesus] privately, saying: "Tell us, When will these things be, and what will be the sign of your presence

(Luke 21:7,24) Teacher, when will these things actually be, and what will be the sign when these things are destined to occur?

Amazingly, since the 1870's, Jehovah's Witnesses had recognized 1914 as a significant year according to the chronology indicated in bible prophecy. Decades before 1914, Witnesses noted that Jesus' discussion of his second "coming", or second "presence" specifically mentions "the appointed times of the nations", which Jehovah's Witnesses believe to be a centuries-long period of relative godlessness when God's rulership through the Davidic kingship was interrupted (the line of hereditary kings beginning with King David of Israel). Jehovah's Witnesses recognize that the Davidic kingship ended in 607 BCE when Jerusalem fell to Babylon, and would begin again during the fulfillment of the composite "sign" of Matthew 24 and Luke 21.

(Luke 21:24) Jerusalem [or 'Davidic kingship'] will be trampled on by the nations, until the appointed times of the nations are fulfilled.

How long would "the appointed times of the nations" last? Daniel chapter 4 contains a prophecy in which God's rulership, through the Davidic kings is represented by a "tree". That tree is kept down for "seven times", which seems to be seven periods of 360 "days" (See Rev 12:6,14). So Daniel 4:15 seems to be referring to 2520 "days" when God's governmental rulership would not be seen.

(Daniel 4:11-17) The tree grew up and became strong, and its very height finally reached the heavens, and it was visible to the extremity of the whole earth. ...14 He ["a holy one"] was calling out loudly, and this is what he was saying: "CHOP the tree down... 15 However, LEAVE its rootstock itself in the earth... let seven times pass over it. 17 ...that people living may know that the Most High is Ruler in the kingdom of mankind and that to the one whom he wants to, he gives it and he sets up over it even the lowliest one of mankind.

But in history, 2520 days is not a significant amount of time. Jehovah's Witnesses look to Scriptures such as Num 14:34 and Ez 4:6 and re-examine the history using 2520 YEARS instead. From 607 BCE to 1914 CE is 2520 years; so many significant things happened that year, and World War I was only one part!.
