"Jehovah" is the English representation of the Tetragrammaton (the personal name of God) which appears nearly 7000 (SEVEN THOUSAND) times in the bible. This question is quite shocking in its arrogance and complete disregard for the actual truth of bible teachings regarding the divine name of the Almighty, and in using that name especially in prayer.
(Nehemiah 1:11) Jehovah, please, let your ear become attentive to the prayer of your servant and to the prayer of your servants who take delight in fearing your name
(Luke 11:2) Whenever you pray, say, ‘Father, let your name be sanctified
(James 5:14) Is there anyone sick among you? ...Let them pray over him, greasing him with oil in the name of Jehovah.
The bible teaches that a certain kind of person would disrespect the divine name.
(Psalm 74:18) The enemy himself has reproached, O Jehovah, And a senseless people have treated your name with disrespect.
The bible also teaches what would happen to those who refuse to use and honor the name of Jehovah.
(Malachi 2:2) If you will not lay it to heart to give glory to my name," Jehovah of armies has said, "I shall also certainly send upon you the curse
(Psalm 83:16-18) Fill their faces with dishonor, That people may search for your name, O Jehovah. 17 O may they be ashamed and be disturbed for all times, And may they become abashed and perish; 18 That people may know that you, whose name is Jehovah, You alone are the Most High over all the earth.
(Isaiah 52:5,6) The utterance of Jehovah, "and constantly, all day long, my name was being treated with disrespect. 6 For that reason my people will know my name
According to the bible, what must ALL people do with regard to Jehovah's name?
(Psalm 29:2) Ascribe to Jehovah the glory of his name.
(Psalm 86:8-9) There is none like you among the gods, O Jehovah, Neither are there any works like yours. 9 All the nations whom you have made will themselves come, And they will bow down before you, O Jehovah, And will give glory to your name.
The bible also teaches that there are real benefits for those who appropriately use the name Jehovah.
(Romans 10:13) Everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will be saved
(Acts 2:21) And everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will be saved.
(Joel 2:32) And it must occur that everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will get away safe
(Malachi 3:16) And a book of remembrance began to be written up before him for those in fear of Jehovah and for those thinking upon his name.
(Nehemiah 1:11) Jehovah, please, let your ear become attentive to the prayer of your servant and to the prayer of your servants who take delight in fearing your name
Who can reasonably be called "a people for Jehovah's name"? What does the bible say about this people?
(Isaiah 43:12) There was among you no strange god. So you are my witnesses," is the utterance of Jehovah, "and I am God.
(Zephaniah 3:9) I shall give to peoples the change to a pure language, in order for them all to call upon the name of Jehovah, in order to serve him shoulder to shoulder.
(Micah 4:5) For all the peoples, for their part, will walk each one in the name of its god; but we, for our part, shall walk in the name of Jehovah our God to time indefinite, even forever.
(Isaiah 52:5-7) The utterance of Jehovah, "and constantly, all day long, my name was being treated with disrespect. 6 For that reason my people will know my name... 7 How comely upon the mountains are the feet of the one bringing good news, the one publishing peace, the one bringing good news of something better, the one publishing salvation
(Malachi 1:11) For from the sun’s rising even to its setting my name will be great among the nations, and in every place sacrificial smoke will be made, a presentation will be made to my name, even a clean gift; because my name will be great among the nations," Jehovah of armies has said.
Here are some additional Scriptures that mention God's personal name. There are THOUSANDS MORE. Do any of these seem to imply that the name "Jehovah" is unimportant?
(Psalm 148:13) Let them praise the name of Jehovah, For his name alone is unreachably high.
(Micah 5:4) He will certainly stand and do shepherding in the strength of Jehovah, in the superiority of the name of Jehovah his God
(Psalm 9:10) And those knowing your name will trust in you, For you will certainly not leave those looking for you, O Jehovah.
(Psalm 34:3) O magnify Jehovah with me, YOU people, And let us exalt his name together.
(Zephaniah 3:12) A people humble and lowly, and they will actually take refuge in the name of Jehovah.
(Revelation 15:4) Who will not really fear you, Jehovah, and glorify your name, because you alone are loyal?. . .
(Micah 6:8,9) And what is Jehovah asking... the person of practical wisdom will fear your name.
(Psalm 96:2) Sing to Jehovah, bless his name.
(Psalm 105:1) Give thanks to Jehovah, call upon his name, Make known among the peoples his dealings.
(Psalm 54:6) I shall laud your name, O Jehovah, for it is good.
(Micah 4:5) For all the peoples, for their part, will walk each one in the name of its god; but we, for our part, shall walk in the name of Jehovah our God to time indefinite, even forever.
(Psalm 118:26) Blessed be the One coming in the name of Jehovah
(Matthew 21:9) Blessed is he that comes in Jehovah's name!
(Matthew 23:39) Blessed is he that comes in Jehovah's name!
(Mark 11:9) Blessed is he that comes in Jehovah's name!
(Luke 13:35) Blessed is he that comes in Jehovah's name.
(John 12:13) Blessed is he that comes in Jehovah's name

Mike C, your phrases with ease don't seem to be totally precise. There are a couple of folks at my Kingdom Hall who're married to non-JW's and they're a HUGE aspect of the congregation and cherished via all. One couple met online round 1998 while JW boards have been ordinary- they've been married just about 10 years. And regardless that such are NOT influenced, it happens. The couple have in no way been kept away from considering that their courtship used to be Scripturally sound. As to the query to hand... I had been disfelowshipped given that February of this yr however I'm taking nice strides to rejoin. My hubby used to be DF while and he has no on the spot plans on ever returning.

No matter the name (Jehovah, Allah, Heavenly Father or any other) God is God, our creator and he is the same to each one of us. People worship him in different ways (religions) but all they are doing is trying to get close to him in the way they feel they are getting closer to him. I love him and I am thankful to him for everything, just being alive is a great gift that he gave us, our families and things around us are blessings given to us. We are all God's people, not just a selected group or religion is. I am Mormon and not because someone does not want to accept a missionary visit it does means that the person is not being bad or something, we truly believe that missionaries are messengers from God... that is true. The work of JWs is great too because you guys try to educate others about God, Jesus and the Bible but as I said before... every person has its own point of view of everything and sometimes we can't do big things to change someone's mind ^_^
Have a great night! :)

Because Sable, (and while I agree with you) they are fighting a LIFETIME of 'indoctrination' into whatever religion they belong to. This means, that if they accept their religion as wrong, that means that their "entire family" has it wrong too. Then all of a sudden THEY are the only true worshippers of Jehovah. What a terrifying thought! That if armaggedon came today, you would LOSE EVERYONE you knew and loved! Your parents, grandparents, even those before them that died! Yes, there is the promise of a resurrection, but what if . . . ? So, many would turn down the truth even if offered it, just for that one fact alone. My sister included.

Hi Sable. If Jehovah's Witnesses come to my door I talk with them, but the conversation has to be two ways. I disagree with some of the doctrines of the JW's. In particular Scripture clearly teaches the deity of Jesus Christ and Jehovah's Witnesses don't believe that.

I am not a Jehovah's witness, but I do accept Yahweh or Jehovah as versions of the name of God, just like Jesus Christ his son also has a hebrew name Yoshua Messhiah.
I do not believe , though, that the name you select will matter. There are finer points of theology that make a difference, not name selection.

Just because you have the name, that doesn't mean you have the favor. The devil can qoute chapter and verse, and he could certainly wrap himself in God's name. Not to say that Jehovah's Witnesses have anything to do with the devil, just pointing out the extreme case.
Most people don't like Witnesses because you have managed to acheive a transcendental level of annoying. And to top the rest of the evangelical christian sects is really quite an accomplishment.

Good for you. Don't argue words. It's one of the first lessons in the JW tract. I started studying but found this so blatantly hypocritical and wrong, that I immediately stopped. Another was the woman who was guiding me was an ex-Catholic, and I found this very distasteful. Since I was Catholic, she assumed that I was disgruntled with being Catholic, and I wasn't. I was just being respectful and trying to find out about the JW's teachings. Christians shouldn't argue words. And I think that when JW's come to the door of a person who is already a Christian (although of another denomination) they should leave and not try to tell them that their religion is wrong. I have spoken many times to JW's and Mormons at the door. I did not find them (personally) bad people. They appeared very decent, but their attitude was offensive, so I asked the ladies who were dissing the Pope to take my name and address off of their list of people to visit. Thank you very much, but I think that you are all very offensive when you have your "converting the nation" hats on.
PS the Mormons were nicer, plus the book they left behind started to heal my eyesight. What do JW's do, but spread hatred for other Christian denominations? That's what they do every time they go out to another Christian's house.
PPSS the idea that you changed an anachronym into a name is equally ludicrous. If you knew God, you would know immediately that this is not HIs name. To say His name is to blaspheme.

"jehovah" is not the name of god so you don't bear the lords name, it is poor translation.
the jw bible is distorted from all other bibles, the catholic and protestant bible is different, but the jw version goes beyond those differences.
bearing the name of god in your church does not mean it is a church of god, whether you use the english, spanish, aramaic or other version of the lords name.
the lord has many titles in scripture.
conduct may be clean but certain practices and teachings are unbiblical, especially if you profess the lords name your church should be biblical.
i could go on, i have nothing against jw church but certain realities have to met when you post a question in the fashion you did. god/jehovah bless you.

Hi Sable, I am a Chirstian and I know we will never reject a JW in a bible study. However, we do not think you all are correct in your doctrine. Jesus said, no one comes to the Father except through me, and I know you all don't accept Jesus Christ as savior. This is where you all fall short. Harsh, I know, but true. You must repent, believe, and accept Him (Jesus) as your savior. Please give Him a chance. I will pray for you. God loves you, but you cannot get to Him with Jesus. God Bless you my friend!
