Does this section cause anyone else to worry that america is one of the world's most powerful nations?

I think something should be done about your education system. SOme of the answers I see on here, most, and we're talking 99%, being from Americans, are just MIND NUMBINGLY stupid.

It just worries me that so many of the total idiots in this section have a vote, and I worry that they might elect a really bad leader that could potentially wreak havoc all over the world...
Oh wait....

I know there are obviously lots of smart people in America, but my God, what a load of Idiots you have there.

Before you hit back at me instead of addressig my question by attacking Ireland (and proving my point), you should know that it's an Island on the north east of the atlantic, it has one of the best education systems in the world, and it has the second strongest economy in europe based on GNP. We do not have a potato famine either, in case you wanted to throw that in.

Sorry if I insulted any INTELLIGENT, Americans. ALthough given this site, I doubt many read it.

I love Ireland. Know where it is by the way.I'm American with Irish ancestry. I love America, but I think we are in a mess. I can say that I'm proud of our heritage as a nation but I'm not terribly proud of the nation we've become. As far as our system of education goes, I home schooled mine then put them in private schools because I'm not a fan of our public schools. I really don't think that this is the place that we could get a fair sampling of American intelligence I hope not anyway. God bless!!

Irish not-so-charmer, I think you are judging the whole of America by what you see here. In truth, you would find that the level of intelligence is comparable with any "developed" country, including your own, even though Ireland has been the butt of too many jokes. The problem as I see it is the level of information available to Americans compared to smaller countries like yours and mine. We see a great deal more about the rest of the world than Americans do simply because of the volume of it being beamed at them. Americans see America first, and the rest of the world is a bit of a mystery to them. Consequently, we understand cultural differences better than Americans do.
This is where your real question comes out, and yes, I do worry about the power of America in the world, and their Administration's belief that theirs is the only "way". It is truly the reason America is hated by other countries with which it disagrees, and that does worry me. America may be the most powerful, the strongest militarily, and the most fearful, but it's also the most frightened, and that is definitely not good for anyone.

I'm American. And I think everything you just said is 100% right. We do seem to have alot of idiots here. (I think the whole Freedom of speech thing backfired a little.) To answer your question, Yeah it freaks me out completely that we have as much power as we do when we have so many idiots. It seems that everyon'es response to world affairs is..."bomb them".
Like you said, there are quite a few intelligent americans, they just don't tend to use Yahoo blogs. Anyway, your question/statement was hilarious. It's nice to know i'm not the only one who thinks the lower population of my country is declining rapidly. It's just sad that it has gotten to the point that some people (you excluded) think ALL americans are ignorant rednecks with nothing higher than a 9th grade education

It's an absolutely stupid answer.
The answers on here cause me no concern for America, and they occasionally give me hope. My concern comes from the lack of outrage about the good ol boy network that is profiteering from their stolen offices. Unbid contracts, rejected subpoenas, 5-4 votes in the Supreme Court overturning human rights (and increasing the opportunity for corporate abuse).

My comment about the sheep and the booze was intended to illustrate that the type of dialog that you use could indicate that you are a lonely man with anger control issues who takes solace in the bottle and the back of a ewe. If you find that stupid, perhaps you could consider some basic education in effective communication.

I'm intelligent and I'm not insulted. I'm not sure why I go on here when in fact, as you said, a vast majority of the questions, answers, and people who write them are stupid. Perhaps I'm hoping that by some chance I may be able to shed a little light or provide a little insight to a few people across America...I guess I'm hoping to make a difference.

I'm graduating college next year and will become an elementary school teacher for this reason. Wish me luck.

Please do not judge this country by the ignorant fundies that you see here daily. I am constantly amazed at what I see here, as well as in our country. Take the Creation Museum for example. That is a huge embarrassment to this country. Take our governments attempt to hinder life saving fetal stem cell research because of some idiotic religious dogma.

There are many wonderful intelligent Christians here on this site as well. I hope that George Bush taught us all a lesson about religion in our government. I did not vote for him, by the way.

Again, please do not lump us in the fundie category. There are intelligent Americans and none of them take the bible literally.
