Yes they are all officers, but from what I understand they are more like warrant officers in the army, in the sense that their job is flying, and to better their flying skills and knowlage, rather than be a company commander, or to lead troops. I believe some of the officers, track as "commanders", and will be company commanders, then battalion commanders, as their rank increases. FYI, thats the army's structer, the air force has squadrons, and I don't know beyond that. But most pilots, are primarily pilots and don't have to worry about ever being incharge of alot of people.

Yes, they are. You have to be an officer to be a pilot, An officer course is part of the training required to become a pilot.

All pilots..no matter the branch of service...are officers. each flight crew does have enlisted for various duties, but the man controlling the plane or helicopter is always and officer.

Yes , I think it is Tradition though . I have seen some real , shall we say "not to bright " Officers . EXAMPLE ==
