Standing for an extended period, especially in very hot weather -- and especially with locked knees -- can make people pass out. Inactivity can cause blood to settle in the lower parts of the body, reducing the amount of blood flowing into the brain.

When you straighten you legs totally you have a little muscle in the back of your knee (the popliteal muscle). This muscle when contracted rotates the knee a couple degrees putting pressure on the popliteal artery, slowing blood flow. Also when the muscles in your legs flex and relax they pump blood through the veins. Locking your legs with the muscles flexed slows the bloodflow through the whole body causing dizziness and fainting. If you unlock you knees, rock back and forth slightly or flex and relax your leg muscles you should be OK.

They lock thier knees, which can cut off or reduce blood flow thru the legs.

This lowers blood pressure throughout the body.

Lower blood pressure, means not enough blood flow to the brain,

Which means reduced oxygen to the brain.
