Why is the worlds richest man is Carlos "Slim" Helu? He just surpassed bill gates by billions. Also Mexico has the worlds 12th largest economy and if we look at it in terms of per capita is roughly one fourth the size of our economy. not to shabby is it?
Fact of the matter is that the "anglo" american had his day, and the sun is setting on that era. latin america is working as a bloc now for the most part, shunning nafta and supporting mercosur. their economies are flourishing and places like argentina, chile and portions of mexico have higher standards of living than the states do. their real growth rates make ours seem pathetic and non existant.
your day is over, and when the sun has set and you look to your allies you will find yourself cold and lonely. you have made life in latin america hell for two centuries. starting wars in central america, depriving children of food and medicine, y buying products american corps produce on their lands. you will end up alone in a corner

i will tell you all why there is such a divide. people are born to a certain station in life. anglos have a similar concept. there are the nacos, the poor uneducated masses. then there are the ejidos, the land owning families. what most americans see of mexico is the favelas on the fronteras. the border towns. mexico city is quite a wealthy city, and monterrey has one of the highest per capita gpa's in the hemisphere.
i am not a mexican. i am hispanic. most of your people will fail to see the difference. but i take the part of mexico whole heartedly, and for as upset as you get with me and shout your racial slurs in my rant here... you have shouted those slurs when they weren't necessary. i say white and anglo... this is not offensive, just like saying latino, mexican or hispanic. but calling someone a ******* or a beaner is offensive.
saying i have 20 children who support me (i wish) is a stereotype. there are facts hidden in my rant folks. FACTS.

hey honest charlie... the people i get angry at aren't dead. are you reading some of these comments? this is sport for me. i am comfortable.
to answer someone else's question yes i am an american citizen. my family has lived in arizona, new mexico, texas and california for generations. i am the 18th generation born in what is now known as the USA in fact.
but if america does fail, i rest confident in knowing that as i am of spanish lineage (true spanish) my family would be welcome in spain, or in argentina.
so i can comfortably say, Viva Mexico, and Viva España. chau.

hey matt s. the vast majority of south america is in the shitter huh? brazil will be in the group of eight in about another decade. know what that is? argentina and chile are advancing nations as well as uruguay and paraguay. look at costa rica, panama and el salvador... how many americans are retiring there instead of here? none of those are third world nations. and none of them are capitalist (with the exception of chile). did you research any of this before you posted? and mexico and the usa are the ONLY active nafta partners. now look up MercoSur. they are starting up a common bank and have already opened a singular parliament. going the way of the EU. they haven't really ever followed our model, and as proof, they are flourishing, while our dollar is weakening. our economy keeps heading south. and companies like ford and gm will continue to move to latin america. thanks for your comment though. i am sure you thought it was well formed.

geography lesson folks... mexico is a country... argentina is a country... spain is a country... guatemala is a country... a map is a scale representation of the land and water masses of the third planetary body revolving around the star known as the sun. a mexican is a person from mexico, an argentine is a person from argentina, and a spaniard is a person from Spain. is that really a foreign concept. i mean i am sure most of you were educated in public schools but come on.
and to "slew" i believe it was who asked, yes, i come from an ejido family. one that was given a land grant and staved off the anglos from stealing it as they did so many other land grants.
i see a lot of angry responses with go back to mexico, but i am an american citizen. my family allowed anglos into new mexico and texas and arizona, though we weren't trusting rightfully so. i am not from mexico. i was just pointing out how you are all wrong.
won't someone defend the financial aspect for the usa's sake

En Busca de Glori..I could not agree with you more, America has seen her best days, America was build with ,hard work, moral values and racism. They have produced a drug addicted, spoiled, selfish nation of sissies, only the racism remains. They did not learn the lesson of Korea fought to a standstill by a 10th rate military powers, China in the 1950s. They lost a war to a Guerrilla Army in a war, they had no business fighting in Vietnam, today they are looking for a face saving withdrawal from Irag. American has loss her credibility in the world drixnot, China is already active at Americas door, Wooing Mexico and South and Central America to become her Trading Partners (NAFTA ) has not helped Mexico, It has displaced many of its poor who no longer can make a living in farming in Mexico.Slew I have had the misfortune of reading a lot of your rant, and you have the gall to call others uneducated.

If Argentina and Chile and portions of Mexico are so properous, why do I look out my window and see person after person sneaking in this country? I guess we should put up signs telling all those folks that they are going the wrong way. The rich and powerful always exploit the poor and powerless and yes the US has supported action that backs those interests that are considered important. It isn't only the US supporting one faction or another. How do you think the world works? When I travel through Mexico I can see all the powerful people in those large houses in each area surrounded by hovels. I must have missed the large, prosperous area. I only saw mile after mile of very poor people. Why do I go out and get people to donate Christmas gifts of wash cloths, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste and some small toy so that some very, very poor kids get something at Christmas? Why does my neighbor's mother, who lives in a small town in Mexico, go without a doctor for her heart condition. She still cooks outside on a grill and has nothing. Why does my other neighbor tell me about the area in Mexico where she came from-up in the mountains and so remote that you have to walk in-about so many babies dying and it is so common there that they are often just thrown in the a dump of sorts. Why do I see little kids working? Why do I see mother's begging? You need to take a good look around. Poverty is rampant in Mexico. And Nafta is a joke for the USA. People are leaving Mexico as fast as they can. There must be a reason. . .

I do not consider you're being racist or some thing. What you are considering is a query of many humans. It's real they have got lot of kids and so they reside in small flats. I consider is considering that mexican humans have extraordinary priorities. Money isn't a lot to pay for a gigantic rental considering that regularly mothers do not paintings, alternatively they keep at residence with their children. Mexicans like gigantic households that is why they have got greater than 3 children. Mexico is an excessively wealthy nation. It used to be rich earlier than any one got here and thieve all its gold and silver. But what approximately humans, I consider the wealthy is richer and the deficient is poorer because of political disorders.

I agree with midcenturydesigner, Mexico has the elite class which is small but extremely wealthy, especially considering the country it is in. They also have the extreme poverty which is fleeing to the US, Mexico has no middle class which is the backbone of every economy. Unfortunately for the United States Mexico's poor are putting the crunch to our already hurting middle class which in turn increases our poverty level and the burden to our taxpayers. It is a no win situation for anybody but those who benefit from cheap labor (at the taxpayers expense)...... If the United States keeps up the importing of poverty we too will be facing some very serious middle class worker issues....
I am very happy that Mexico has some bragging rights with the worlds richest man...... Whats he doing to help out the rest of the country? You are however right, Mexico is far from poor their GNP is quite high but the problem is that trickle down economics does not work there.

That is the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard... "the sun is setting on the anglo american"... the countries you mentioned are capitalist countries following the US... mexico has all of the natural resources and manpower to emerge from bein a third world country, but their government is so corrupt that it strangles the economy. The growth rates you explained...if they have any truth at all...is because mexico had nowhere to go but up, and these gains are because of America and NAFTA, the US is among Mxico's top trading partners, and NAFTA has allowed moexico to grow as rapidly as it has... and the vast majority of central and south america is still in the shitter, mostly third world and corrupt in government or tangled in civil war. I find it hard to believe that "the sun is setting" on the greatest economic powerhouse the world has ever know... especially when the "surging" south american "block" is still in virtual ruins...with the exception of the countries with a major American influence. and just one more thing, if mexico has the twelfe largest economy, would you remind me who is at the top of the list? I believe you would find it to be the United States of America
RESPONSE: I realize Mexico is the only country in NAFTA, if you didn't know, it means North American Free Trade Agreement... and being that Mexico is the only North American country you mentioned i figured it was safe to cite Nafta in the manner i did... oh and as a note, Canada is involved too.
and forgive me if i noted argentina and mexico as capitalist economies, i was being generous...
And your comment about the rising popularity of central American countries as retirement communities, I'm sure Haiti and Cuba would be great vacation spots too, but it doesn't mean they have any type of an economy to rival the United States. And it seems to me that el salvador and mexico are the destinations of my recent church mission trips, where we were to install primitive sewage and water systems, sounds like an economic powerhouse to me...
About Ford and Gm, outsourcing is a smart business move, it actually means our economy is stronger, creating higher prices and demanding higher wages, moving to south america makes it cheaper to conduct business.
The strongest south american country...Chile...follows our model. And its wonderful that south america is forming one big confederacy...just like the EU or maybe the soviet union?. Its great now, but eventually there will be disagreements unable to be settled, and when all nationalistic pride has disappeared, and the union disolves it will be yet another civil battleground like the collapsed soviet union or yugoslavia. Sounds really great, im glad our neighbors to the south can show us the way, since we are in so much trouble ourselves

Um... your editorializing toward the end, while passionate, only confuses the question, so I'll stick to that if it's okay.
Mexico is considered poor because a far greater percentage of its people are very, very poor. One or two gazillionaires doesn't make up for the fact that there's an entire shanty town in the dumps of Mexico City, and that even in the rich resort areas, the average worker makes $6/day.

Latin America is no threat to the US, if any foreign country is going to take over the American economy it will be China.
As for the accusation of depriving children of food and medicine once again you are wrong, for that you need to blame the governments of their own countries. The American people have always been a charitable people, not only does our government give substantial foreign aid but the American people themselves give approx. 35 billion in foreign aid out of our own pockets every year.

Mexico seems poor because they have a large rich-poor divide. Everyone is either rich or dirt poor. There isn't really much of a middle class, compared to America at least. And we have a large enough rich-poor divide as it is.

Please lets not make it about white vs brown! Yes Mexico is poor because powerful rich, corrupt elites control Mexico...And trust me, Slim didn't make his billions by being a "nice" guy.....I am sure he cut a couple of throats along the way....There is virtually NO middle class in Mexico, and it is this way by design, the rich get richer and the poor, well you know, they all come here because they are so oppress and take the risk coming here, facing danger and discrimination, while living in the shadows....Mexico is culpable for its problems, and yes US hasn't help get out corrupt leaders, because it benefits us as well....We exploit there resources such as oil, and help the elite, keeping them in power, all the while, the middle class and poor pay the price....Stop making this a racial issue, it is a social and political issue....
Edit: My husband is an immigrant from Mexico City, Spanish descent, it is not only poor, but becoming very dangerous, the middle class is fleeing in droves! Haven't you heard of all the kidnappings? Many are going to Canada, because their immigration laws are much easier to meet....Its a shame really, because we are getting all of Mexico's poor, while I don't blame them for fleeing, Canada is receiving Mexico's middle class with money to invest in Canada....
