What do the Christians here think of incest? I find it interesting that the Bible speaks against incest, though it was REQUIRED many many times...?

In case you're confused... think about Adam and Eve's children and how they had to procreate together...

And what about Noah's family? His children had to procreate with each other...

AND... if it wasn't bad enough that brothers and sisters had to have sex, but their children had to do it too... at best they'd have to procreate with their cousins!

I guess the argument always went that DNA/genes were much cleaner, stronger then... I don't think that argument holds any water, and besides, I'M GLAD I WASN'T ALIVE AT THE TIME

Yes, there had to have been incest in order to populate the world. This is a prime example of people picking and choosing which parts of the bible they believe/not believe.

Although I'm not Christian, I've often wondered this myself - there wouldn't be many generations of humans if we relied on inbreeding that heavy to populate the world!! I seriously doubt that a single couple or even a single family could populate even an island with inbreeding.

One of the theories that deals with this is that although Adam and Eve were given God's breath for souls, there were other human creatures in existence. That's with whom Adam and Eve's children mated with. Also, another theory is that Adam and Eve were not just individuals, but a large group of men and women with Adam and Eve being... Alphas for lack of a better term.

As far as Noah is concerned, the ancients that are credited with writing the bible thought the world was flat. If a flood covered the entire world, then excess water would run off the ends into the "nothingness". But we all know the world is not flat! Can you imagine how long it would take for water to cover an entire earth, then how long it would take for it to go back down? I doubt it could happen - at least not in 40 24-hour periods!! An alternative theory is that Noah's flood occurred in a large area, but an area none-the-less. Thus the water was allowed to recede and there were people still alive in other lands far away.

Of course, these are just interpretations, as with the rest of the bible, but they make more sense to me!

Adam and eve's children had to procreate together because there were no other people on the planet. So unless they were going to procreate with animals... it was the only choice.

Noah's family did not commit incest. Noah's 3 sons were married before the flood and they had wives that were not related to them. I guess their children did have to procreate with their cousins but again there was no other choice.

One more thing..... it was not required many, many times. it was twice! In order to populate the earth.

Have you studied the Bible or is this based on stories told to you?

First, it is not possible to take it literally, Adam only had sons. Therefore, they must have been others on earth. It specifically states Cain when to the land of Nod where he found his wife.(Genesis 4)

As for Noah, the wives of his three sons accompanied on the boat. there were 8 total on the boat ( Genesis 7)

As for marrying first cousins, that was common into this country until the 19th century. Check your family history and I bet you will find evidence of first cousins marrying. It is only in recent times that the government has mandated minimum 2nd cousins

Noah only had 3 sons. God said that the sons' wives were to get on the ark too. So they could not have committed incest.
After Adam and Eve I think the only other time incest is mentioned was Lots Daughters after the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.
I thought it was icky too but God did not tell them to do this. they got their Dad drunk and took advantage of Him. EEEWWW! I don't know what God had to say about this the Bible did not mention lot again after this little incident.

The story of Adam and Eve is a parable. Also, many xtians are too dumb to realize that Mary's immaculate conception really means that she had a child within wedlock, and that it has nothing to do with being a virgin. Immaculate in the old language means clean. Which means Mary had a child within the means that man at the time deemed appropriate.

Unlike today, blood lines were pure at that time. Pure blood lines means no deformities. A not so good secondary answer might be: Incest? Stranger things have happened. And: Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

Today it is required only in South Carolina...

JUST KIDDING!!!!

I'm not familiar with the Bible verses against Incest...

However.. it seems to me that in most cultures in ancient times that any deformed children were simply killed and the couple just had more children.

No, Christianity doesn't require incest.

Christianity is about Jesus teachings. Jesus life and teachings is chronicled in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Those are the books of the bible which you should read if you want to know what Christianity is about.

God loves you, and you choose to reject his love? I hope you will pray and reconsider. He is real. If you seek him, you will find him. That is certain. But if you don't, well, you will still eventually know the truth of his existence. Hopefully, it won't be too late in the day when that happens...
