I recently put my truck in the ditch. My truck sustained massive paint damage. I'm pretty sure my insurance company will cover a paintjob but will they still cover it if I change the color? It is currently blue. I have been meaning to paint it black since I’ve bought the truck and I just see this as an opportunity.

Everything except the tailgate was damaged in some way by the wreck. There are scratches everywhere!

The color shouldn't matter. However, is the paint on the entire truck affected? Normally the insurance company would pay only to repaint the affected area using color match technology. Also, how about those bits inside the doors? Insurance won't want to pay for painting that. You may have to add a little bit to the kitty, but its better than paying for the whole thing yourself.

If you really want to change the color, I'd call the body shop and ask what the difference would be to entirely repaint the truck after your insurance company pays them their estimate. Probably won't be much depending on how much the insurance company has agreed to pay. I did that with a corvette once. Much of the extra cost comes from painting the door jams and such when you change color. But it might be worth it to you.

It's doubtful they will pay to repaint the entire truck. Usually, they just repaint the parts that needed repair. You may be able to work a deal with the body shop for a complete paint job where they paint the vehicle and you pay the difference between what the insurance paid and the actual bill.

absolutely not. They will pay to paint the affected panels... now.. you SAY every panel is affected except the tailgate.. well.. theres one panel.. now.. what about all the insides of everything?

Inside of the doors.. under the hood.... the body panel in the trunk... no way are you getting all this for free.
