Your question is a little vague because you do not specify whether you mean a god or the one and only true God, who is the Creator of all that exists, who manifested Himself in the flesh as Jesus Christ and gave Himself for us by death on a cross, then ressurected, and who now manifests Himself as the Holy Spirit who guides us all into the truth, which in turn reveals the Truth about Jesus to us all.
Any religion that does not point to the truth of Jesus is not the Truth and therefore can not be trusted and any god refenced in those religions is therefore a false god. The Bible is the only book in which hundreds of prophetic passages(the foretelling of future events) have come to pass or which have been proven true(fulfilled sometimes hundreds of years after prophecy was given). No other religious book can truthfully make this claim. The Bible has proven itself to be true.
Christianity is about a relationship with their Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, whereas all other religions are stricly laws or lists of what is required of them to do and what not to do in order to achieve some some kind of promised spiritual enlightenment. Christianity is the only religion which promises not only a spiritual salvation but a bodily ressurection and salvation for body, mind, and spirit.
What is most important is that this salvation is not earned by doing good and not doing bad, but by simply asking the one and only true God to forgive you of a life of sin, lived for mostly selfish purposes, and accept Jesus into your heart, because He has already paid the price for your sins by dieing on the cross in your place(you deserved it and He did not) because He loved you.
Do you know anyone who would be willing to die in your place and take the punishment you deserved, when they had not done anything wrong? The love of Jesus for you is even greater than that. God? Choose wisely.
PS I am a Christian but do not like denominational labels because I do not believe any single denomination has all the answers. I believe true Christianity is a journey in life where we grow as we study and learn the amazing life lessons taught in the Bible that must be lived out in Faith and service to the True God and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Both; God uses prophets to speak to us, he ministers to us using gifts he gives others too: all in an attempt to draw us into a personal relationship with himself. Our relationship with the creator is often reflected in our attitude towards others ie humility enables us to get along with God and those he brings us into contact with.
So it would be a contradiction to say "yer I know God" and yet turn our backs on the chance to learn from others.
For instance: Jesus often reflected on the words of the prophets before him, whilst worning us of those who would come along after him who would try and scatter the flock.
The Spirit of prophecy is the testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ, as it says in the book of revelation. All personal relationship with the creator has this at it's root.
On the other hand, the spirit of the anti-Christ is that spirit that refuses to acknowledge that Jesus Christ walked in the flesh.
If you take these two principles and apply them to all and every spiritual question you will come up with some amazing results!
Have fun!

Well, I'm non-denominational. I believe that people tend to take what they read in the Bible and twist it to fit their beliefs, instead of the other way around. I tried alot of different churches, and not one of them stuck strictly by the Bible. I didn't like that. I certainly didn't feel comfortable with it. At one church I went to, the Pastor quoted Shakespeare and insisted that it was a Bible verse from the Old Testament. One church I went to, two women came up to me and told me that the demon of vanity was in me because I wore make-up and braided my hair. I finally ended up going to a non-denominational church in the next town over. So far, they haven't contradicted anything in the Bible. And i am happy there. I guess to finally answer your question, I believe in God, and that Jesus is my Savior not because of religion and Christian denominations, but in spite of some of them. I have a very close, personal relationship with God. To me, He isn't some abstract idea. My life has definately been made better because He has control over it.

My faith is strictly based on the bible I have been to alot of churches and some have increased faith due to what they preach from the bible but is there truly a religion out there anymore that is actually speaks the truth and do not lead ppl astray . Read Mathew and it states do not call anyone father besides me therefore i am your only spiritual father so where does that leave the catholics ? it also states prey in private and do not do acts to get publicity so where does that leave the Mormons ?

If you believe in God and have a relationship with him then everything comes from him. He gives us pastors and teachers, etc. to bring us up in his grace and give us the knowledge of Christ, but he is the one who teaches us, because without the Holy Spirit we are just learning book learning. He gives us what we need to have more than understanding in our minds, but in our spirit as well.
