I mean we've been around much more longer than 2007 years. I think its because of Jesus that we started over at 1, since his birth? 2000 years ago.
But that dosen't explain how the WHOLE world have that same calendar...how come someone like CHINA still have a calendar that says 2007 when they arn't much of a Jesus people.
Is it because of Jesus? or some other influence?
So is Jesus really that significant?

JESUS' first coming heralded the last days and the Gospel must be preached unto all the nations. If everyone is using the Gregorian calendar that's a sign that the Gospel has reaced everyone. Is JESUS that powerful? JESUS IS GOD! . .. Futher the ticker started ticking at the time JESUS was born which was between 4 and 8 bc . .. if in 4 bc then we would have to subtract four and this would be 2004 if in 8bc we would have to subract 8 and this would only be 1999 . ..
Those who set the Calendar date had assumed JESUS' birthday and evidence suggests they were wrong . .. but the exact day isn't known any more than we can know the last day of the Earth . .. we cannot tell the day and hour . ..
JESUS' influence shall be greater than anyone today realizes because everyone shall bow before JESUS . .. think of the pharoah in the Cecil B. Demille film Ten Commandments . .. when the pharoah finally says "Moses' GOD is GOD" so too shall every tongue confess JESUS IS THE LORD! . ..
And that's the way it is.
-LOVE your neighbor as yourself.
Amen

The calendar starting going backward from Adam until the birth of Jesus. Then the calendar started going forward starting with the birth of Jesus until the present time.
Yes Jesus is that significant.

The Chinese have adopted the Western calendar since 1911, but the lunar calendar is still used for festive occasions such as the Chinese New Year. Many Chinese calendars will print both the solar dates and the Chinese lunar dates.

Why did they adopt the Western calendar? Convenience. Just like the reason that most other countries will also teach their children English - because that's become the "de facto" standard worldwide. Doesn't mean that English is any "more important" than any other language, just "more widely used".

THe modern calendar is conformed in BC (Before Christ) and AD (After Death of Christ). Yes, Jesus is that significant. There are other calendars it's just that no one talks about them that much. This calendar is called the Gregorian calendar. This calendar began about 500 years ago and it does start with Christ. It replaced teh Julian Calendar which wasn't as accurate.

Not everyone has the same year. The Christian calendar is widely followed, but many other cultures have their own calendars, for example our year may be 2007, but the Chinese calendar says it's 4704–4705.

China has a different calendar within their country. When they deal with the West, they use our calendar. We're just not sophisticated enough to use two calendars.

China, the Jews and the Muslims all have different calender years for this year.
They follow our calendar when they're dealing with westerners.
Go to China, Israel or Saudi Arabia and they will have different numbers for the year.

Jesus was so significant that He is the reason. However, in recognition of the fact that there are non-Christians in the world, scholars have begun to refer to B.C. ("Before Christ") as "B.C.E." ("Before Common Era"), and A.D. ("Anno Domini"--in the year of our Lord) as "C.E." ("Common Era")
Not to confuse the issue further, but the whole world does not use our numbering system for counting years. However, I think it is the standard.
