The infamous grey area. It isn't a commandment to follow the Word of Wisdom yet a requirement to go to the temple (which is an LDS/Mormon) commandment is that the Word of Wisdom be followed. Double standard? I think so.

from what I understand....it is a guideline....an optional following of a suggestion. one way a servant shows he is a good servant is he does all that the master asks. In the military when an officer asks about some thing it may be taken for a command. many Mormons do not follow the WOW and are allowed to participate in church activities. how ever to participate in the temple you must be clean to enter the temple. (the concept of muddy boots on a white rug.) no mud is allowed.... now churches (most churches) are for the spiritually ill. how can you let spiritual illness in to sacred places?would you not want to help cure the illness before allowing access? if we are to keep holy places holy and sacred things sacred we must insist on this.
what makes holy things holy and sacred things sacred is the limiting of impure things to enter.

A bishop is not going to grant a temple recommend to someone whose relationship with the WoW is that it is not to be taken seriously. Neither do they expect you to be 100% adherent on every point 100% of the time. They do expect you to try. They may ask you to work on an area if it looks like your ego is really getting in the way of your relationship with God before granting a recommend.

He would have been named after the Waters of Mormon, that have been primary for their purity. "extra stable" is fairly close in intending to purer. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that the written language of the Nephites became derived from the Egyptian, there's no direct correlation for the spoken language of the Nephites. maximum of our present day prophets have provided their comments on somewhat some subjects, yet they have by no ability claimed to be infallible, or to have a suitable understanding of all issues. Joseph became no different.

If you are living a life worthy to enter the temple than you are living a life worthy of Exaltation! Even if the WOW is set as a guideline, I would follow it anyways! It was given by the Lord to His Prophet, that's a pretty good source if you ask me!

Thou shalt not live by bread alone, but by every word the proceeds from the mouth of God. The Word of Wisdom is given to all for their temporal well being. For those who are Saints, or would be called Saints, it is for us to follow as any commandment coming from the mouth of God.

In regards to alcohol, tobacco, coffee, tea, and illicit drugs, we must keep the Word of Wisdom to get a temple recommend.

IF YOU CANT GO TO THE CELESTIAL KINGDOM UNLESS YOU ARE TEMPLE WORTHY, AND THAT DEPENDS ON KEEPING THE WORD OF WISDOM, THEN DEFINITELY IT IS A RULE AND NOT A GUIDELINE.
BTW, IF NON LDS CHRISTIANS CAN MAKE IT TO THE TELESTIAL KINGDOM ALONG WITH ANY NON TEMPLE WORTHY MORMON, WOULDNT A NON TEMPLE WORTHY MORMON BE BETTER OFF IN A PROTESTANT CHURCH?
IF THE PROTESTANTS ARE RIGHT, THE MORMONS BURN IN HELL. IF THE MORMONS ARE RIGHT, THE PROTESTANTS GET TO GO TO THE TELESTIAL KINGDOM (HEAVEN).
