Since you post your message here, I assume you are not yet an American Citizen. If you still in the process of applying for your green card, I will suggests not to change name yet. When you apply for the citizenship, they will ask if you want to change your name. You can do it at that time without any trouble, and they will take care all the paper works for you.

I looked into this once recently. The process is not complicated. And, as long as you are not doing it to try to defraud someone, it only takes a short time. I would suggest that you consult with an attorney to start the ball rolling.

However, changing your FIRST name is not something that typically happens with marriage. You will find this out when you fill out the application for a marriage license.

As others have stated, you need to hire an attorney who can help you fill out all of the papers that need to be filed. As far as this affecting your immigration status, I do not think that it should, although you would need to report the change to the immigration office.

To change your last name is easy. All you need is your marriage license and picture ID. Changing the rest of your name requires a lawyer as you will have to obtain a new birth certificate and have your old one present as well.

You can legally change your name to just about anything you want it to be, you just need to file the appropriate forms.
