my 6 year old unfortunately has been found with two cavities, on identical sides of her mouth, the dentist said it wasn't a result of not brushing, but that usually baby teeth have spaces between, but these two teeth are next to each other with no space, so its hard for it to become cleaned properly, anyway, she is having them fixed tomorrow, the dentist said they would give her laughing gas, but my daughter has never really had any kind of medication other than the typical OTC's for colds and stuff, I'm worried about allergic reactions, and then of course there have been some horror stories in the news about kids who were given to much, or were given the gas with other meds and they died.....is it safe? has anyone elses child had it? I'd love to know....and how did your child do?

for those who think its stupid to have the baby teeth fixed...I first thought so as well, but these two particular teeth won't fall out till about age 11 or twelve, if they are not fixed I can't imagine what jokes would be made of the child with teeth that would surely turn brown by then., so its better to have them fixed.

HELLO,
THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS GIVING A 6-YEAR-OLD NITROUS OXIDE. THERE ARE NO KNOWN ALLERGIES COMMONLY KNOWN TO THIS ANESTHETIC.
THE TERRIBLE STORY OF A YOUNG CHILD DYING WAS FROM GENERAL INTRAVENOUS ANESTHESIA, NOT THE INHALED NITROUS OXIDE. THE LATER IS VERY SAFE. ALSO, THE FORMER PATIENT WAS FOUND TO HAVE BEEN GIVEN AN OVERDOSE OF MEDS.

well, back when i was much younger than i am today, i was given the laughing gas and the effect it had on me made my mother worried. couple minutes after i was exposed to the laughing gas, my mother noticed that i kept talking a lot and i would laugh a lot and not stop. she said that i wouldn't stop talking which was weird becuase i wasn't much of a talker back then and she was afraid that i might go insane or something. i must have felt light headed a bit which got me hyper, but the effects soon wore off after i no longer had any exposer. nothing bad

when it was given to my grand children i was allowed to be in the room actually the dentist preferred that the parents were their as well as there were no doors on any of the rooms. But it is very common for children to be given laughing gas to take care of a simple cavity. But i will have to say for one it was very good because she was scared to death. the other she was fine the child that had a tooth cared for without the gas and a shot only i think he came out the best and he hates going to a doctor of any kind

Yes it's safe. When i wass 5 or so, i broke my arm and had to have laughing gas from a balloon or something so i could fall asleep. i didnt die or anything so it is safe.

It is physically safe but psychologically, who knows? I hope children don't enjoy the drugged feeling too much. Otherwise, they become alcoholics or drug addicts or overdosed substance users in the future.

that's stupid, if your kid has baby teeth then you can jus wait for the teeth to fall out, there's no need to fix the cavities.
if i'm jus missing something, you should go with what your dentist says because they were trained for these procedures.
