They had me on novicane. They had this thing to prop my mouth open and they made sure that they suctioned the saliva and blood out through this vaccum tube. They give you stiches when you're done-and it takes about a week to heal.

You will be fine. The dentist will have an assistant that sucks the blood out before it hits your throat. They stitch your gums back together just like any Dr. does stitches. It's just really thick thread. If you are being put under they have instruments to keep your mouth open (I had mine pulled with just laughing gas, so I kept my own mouth open). You'll be just fine! The dentists do this procedure a lot, they are old pros. I saw a girl get all 4 pulled the other day and it only took 5 minutes.
Just make sure to follow the instructions after you are done. Ice your jaw a lot(frozen peas are great), NO STRAWS, and only eat soft food without seeds that is room temperature(mashed potatoes are great, and yogurt, etc). Take it easy for a few days, too. It helps you heal faster, and you don't want to get dry socket. It hurts a lot.
Good luck with your procedure! It will be fine

It's possible that your other wisdom teeth haven't grown enough to be pulled, at 17, they usually have, but each person is different, as a child, my teeth were always coming in, a year or two later than my peers. $wise, if you are having anesthesia and the whole bit at the oral surgeon, it is cheaper to go ahead and pull all 4, because otherwise your will be paying again for all that stuff when the next tooth is pulled. BUT only your dentist knows if that is even a possibility for you, or a good idea. PLUS with all four taken out, you will really need a whole week (or more) to recover. IF your one tooth is not impacted, and the x-ray shows it will come out easily, you probably could skip the anesthesia, and just have that area numbed. the oral surgeon will be able to tell you this. I worked for a general dentist, that did those "easy" in his office all the time. BUT if the tooth was impacted where it would take an hour of sectioning etc, he would recommend going to the oral surgeon so that you could "sleep" through" the long ordeal. PLUS not all people need all their wisdom teeth out. you may have lots of room for them, crowding your other teeth may not be an issue for you, ASK YOUR DENTIST

Hello, The oral surgeon recommended you not smoke to avoid a "dry socket". When a tooth is pulled,it leaves a big hole exposing bone and nerves.A blood clot forms in the hole protecting all those nerves. If you smoke, or drink from a straw , the sucking motion can dislodge the clot .Every breath will become VERY painful. I know this from experience.Labor and natural childbirth wasn't as painful as that dry socket.I can say in all honesty it is the most intense pain I have experienced. And the pain lasted for 2 full weeks. I would suggest you listen to him and not smoke

Since you're going to under a general, you won't feel anything when it's going on. But you will be sore after wards. You'll probably to home and go to bed. They put stitches in your mouth which helps the healing process and keep the blood clot it....which is important. They will probably use bite blocks to keep your mouth open and then use suction to prevent the swollowing of blood.
It maybe uncomfortable at first, but eat soft foods, jellos, etc and it will heal in a about a week. They will probably use dissingerating stitches. But you will follow up with your dentist.

OK, so i was super scared when they took my wisdom teeth out, and they took out all 4 of them.. They may only take out one of your because it isn't coming in straight. Another usual reason is because your mouth isn't big enough. You can't ask the dentist to take out all 4. The surgery take me only about 20 minutes. They have a constant suction going on to help prevent blood going in to your stomach, and the prop your teeth open.
For me it was not painful at all, my gums and cheeks were sore for about 2 or 3 days.
If you have any other questions just email me.

Hey i just got mine pulled in april, and i did do it in the hospital under sedation because mine were impacted and close to a nerve, but by doing it in hospital i did not experience any pain what so ever even when the general wore off a couple of hours later i just had a few disolvable panedine and i was fine had no taste of blood. everyone worked me up to be scared, but maybe i was just really lucky. but i would recommend getting them all out as you wont want to go through it for a second time later on.

Ask any professional, for most people there just isn't enough room in your mouth for all those teeth. An oral surgeon will remove them. You're put under and they will usually prop your mouth open and theres no way any blood is going down your throat.
...Just make sure a parent comes with to take you straight home.

I have been to dental assisting school. You have nothing to worry about. There is a special appliance that they use to keep your mouth open. It is comfortable so you don't have to worry. They use a suction tool to suck up the blood out of your mouth before it even gets close to your throat. =)

I got all 4 out when I was 14. All were severely impacted. They put me under and I never felt a thing. It took about a half hour. My cheeks didn't swell, I didn't choke on blood or gauze. You're just really dizzy and out of it when they wake you up, so make sure you don't drive yourself!
