if i call someone from my cell phone and block my number, can they trace that number?

That question should actually be asked in the cell phone section, but the answer is NO, unlike home phones where you can do CALL TRACE, that feature is not yet offered for cell phones.

in the days of old - mechanical switching central offices - tracing calls was laborious and time consuming, and gone when disconnected.

today with everything electronic, it is instantaneous (almost) and it leaves a permanent trail. Blocking just prevents the called party from seeing who you are. The trail is still there for the authorities to find. so if you want to aggrivate or threaten someone, get over it, now or in jail.
