This is a quote from another answer.

"Athiests are less likely to marry simply because their Religion makes it a requirement for getting laid."

Is this implying that an atheist's beliefs require him/her to have sex?

Or is it saying that atheists don't see marriage as a requirement for sex?

*sighs* This is why I don't do much after work. I can't seem to think straight.

It is simply saying that atheists are not going to get married just so that they can have sex. Many religions forbid premarital sex, so you end up with two horny 18 year olds getting married because they want to have sex. As we all know this is often not the best circumstance for a lifelong marriage. Non-religious people often do not see marriage as a requirement for sex, but this is NOT to say that atheists are promiscuous or that they do not believe in marriage. ALL people are different.

This is saying that Atheists don't believe marriage is a requirement for sex (Atheists rely on pure logic and science for their beliefs. Marriage is a spiritual thing or a legal contract, and has nothing to do with sex outside of the spiritual way of thinking.) Whoever said this, was generally speaking the truth, their religion doesn't require them to be married before having sex.

*Edit* please understand that this does not mean that atheists run out and have sex whenever. It depends greatly on the traditions and values of the individual, instead of the religion as a whole.

I think whoever said that to begin with was simply ill-informed, or not too intelligent.

For one, being an athiest doesn't mean one is more or less inclined to get married, it simply means it won't be at a church or overseen by a preacher. Pre-marital sex is a choice people make, no matter what religion they are.

For another, being an athiest has no bearing on one's sexuality and if, in fact, one wants to have sex. Athiests probably have the same variety of inclinations as other religions - gay, striaght, bi, trans, celibate, etc.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

lmao, of all the ignorant quotes I've seen today that's pretty high among them! I believe it's implying that Athiests don't "respect" the aspect of marraige that Christians attach as the most important, being not having sex beforehand. how ridiculous of this person to say though, insulting AND evident of far more ignorance than they know they are presenting.
don't worry, we all get like that after a long day :) (unable to think clearly, that is.)

Marriage is not required for sex. Considering that the divorce rate is a split-down-the-middle 50%, and many of these divorces are due to cheating spouses... maybe it's best to do all your messing around BEFORE making life-long promises to someone else, eh?

Atheists don't have some little club that they all belong to and a set of "rules" that they live by. They just simply live. They are wonderful, loving human beings from all walks of life, which, and I know it's hard to believe, can be done without religion. Of course, there are Atheists who are jerks, just like there are Christians who are jerks, or Mormons, or Jews, or what have you.

i read it like this:

Athiests are less likely to marry simply because [the christian] Religion makes it a requirement for getting laid."

makes much more sense i think. beware those dangling pronouns.

Atheism is not a religion, first of all.

I have no idea what he or she was talking about. We're less likely to get married because marriage is a religious tradition.

It's poorly written, but I think it's supposed to explain that Atheism doesn't require marriage BEFORE sex.

It is saying that atheists are not as likely as non-atheists to use "because I can finally have sex" as their stated reason for marriage.
