i'm not rich by an means but i do like to splurge on scented bath soaps and foams and gels, and perfumes, just to be specific, but i'm tired of my family members constantly coming over to my house just to take a shower, my stuff is disapearing and as of now i can't afford to replace it. they use everything i have whether it be a toothbrush/toothpaste, and deoderant it's rather sickening.

i just don't like to share.

i forgot to mention that my family lives only down the street, [not even 5 houses] and yet they come over to use my bathroom.

It is not wrong at all. Your family members are being rude by using your 'good stuff.'

If there is no way for you to keep your family members from coming over and using your bathroom, then I'd recommend keeping cheap stuff out for them to use, and keeping the 'good' stuff for you to use away where they can't find it.

If you were wealthy, or if this were a once-a-year sort of thing I would answer differently. But no, you are not being rude in the least.

I don't think this has anything to do with sharing, but rather a respect for other people's property. There are two things I see here. First, if I am guest in someone's house, I assume I am to use whatever is put out for use in a bathroom or powder room, like soaps, towels, etc. However, I would never think of taking anything home with me. OTOH, if I were to use the shower at someone else's house for whatever reason, I would bring my own toiletries to use.

You can ask your family to please bring their own toiletries when they come over, but just in case they don't, I would put away whatever I didn't want to be available for public use.

It's natural to not want to share with everybody. You are on a tight budget. So what's yours is yours. i would be doing the same thing. Just make sure you hide them in a place where they will not snoop. Because not only do you want them looking for your stuff, you do not want them finding anything else out that is none of their business.

Hide the good stuff. Let them use what is there. Family is family, but you don't have to supply them with scented bath soaps, etc.

Ask them to shower at their own house! no i dont think its wrong to hide ur expensive gels etc. If they keep coming leave some cheaper stuff out for them to use. After all u can choose ur friends but not ur family!

Go to your local drug store and purchase travel packs of soap, toothpaste and lotion. Hide your good stuff.

nope. i buy expensive shampoo and conditioner as well as bath stuff and i keep it in my room so my annoying roommate doesnt use it all up on me (he is a guy but still will use my stuff rather than buying his own)

Lock up your cabinets. Why can't they bathe at home? No way would i tolerate thieves in my own family.

That sucks. Why don't you buy inexpensive toiletries and put them out when you are expecting them and put away your personal items somewhere safe.

It's not wrong by any means. They are personal items, which means they are for yourself. No one else.
