why is there so much crap in the army?

to me it seems that most of the stuff we do is point less? so much BS!!!

im talking about POV inspections every week or SRP every month. what the fck. all the nco and officers think they are God. yeah right.

Unlike everyone else who posted, whom I'm guessing isn't in the army, I know what you're talking about. All the pov inspections, and safty breifings is just some officer covering their own ***. So when pvt Joe Snuffy goes out and totals his civic and kills himself, his Commander can pull his pov inspection and tell the CG, "well sgt. so and so signed his inspection, so he's at fault, if anyone. Saftey briefings usually happen after a few acouple of joe's die, its just the battalion commanders making their surperiors happy by telling them they had an entire days worth of breifings.
Don't expect all the beurocray to leave the army anytime soon, it'll get worse before it gets better.

I used to do the POV inspections in the Navy since I was a mechanic in the Navy.
I think it was a good idea right before a 96 or a holiday. A lot of young troops planned on trips in their POVs that weren't just up to it, bald tires, lights out, front parts loose, etc, etc.
The military has a responsibility to make sure its people are on the road safely and get back to the base in one piece.
Most of the stuff you think is pointless does have a reason, maybe you just haven't been in long enough to understand why.
Try going with the team that has to tell Mom and Dad at the front door that "Johnny" was killed in a car wreck because he had bald tires and lost control of his car over a 96 weekend.
If at the end of your time you still think its BS, walk out the gate and never look back.

As a retired First Sergeant I can assure you that what you consider to be 'pointless crap' is necessary because people cannot be counted to do things on their own.

Those POV inspections are done because otherwise you would be driving an unsafe vehicle.

Those SRPs are because people like you keep losing your ID tags and failing to keep your records up to date.

If we did not inspect your room - in a few weeks the stench will drive everybody else out of the building.

Those seemingly "pointless crap" are meant to discipline and mostly to ensure that stuff are drummed into you so much so it becomes second nature and you will automatically react to specific commands. Its similar to "conditioning". Similarly, we do "pointless crap and BS" in sports and other types of recreational activity to improve ourselves, work in a team and achieve specific goals. The best still need to practise, practise and practise. Your question suggests that you are not a professional soldier but a conscript.
