I'm just tired of some people trying to attack with the whole "the universe wasn't created in 7 days". And to answer that question, Catholics don't take that literally. That's just a representation. And yes, Catholics can still believe in Evolution AND in God.

1) I was talking about the current position of the Catholic Church that Catholics can still believe in Evolution (with the help of God).
2) 7 days because of the whole Creation process, which includes the day God "rested".
3) When I said research, I meant why they assume stuff when they have NEVER been to a church before.
4) Yea I meant some Catholics. Some do take it word for word, but so far whenever I have attended a Faith Studies, they don't take it literally. I'm not saying they do not believe in what it says, but some of the stuff they take it as a representation. Like 7 days weren't probably 7 days in our time like some people said. But that doesn't mean we don't believe in the Creation.

Maybe the universe was created in 7 days.... but maybe.... a day was a lot longer thousands of years ago than it is now.
And maybe it was a "God" day? God days' may last a thousand years. He's got a lot to do, right? So he probably needs more time to do it in.
The fact is that if there is a God, he can make a day last as long as he wants and change it to our 24 hour schedule to meet the needs of man.
These people are thinking of days in the current context and that just might not be the case.

The word for "day" in the genesis is translated "Yom" that could mean, a day, a protracted period of time, eternity, an age, generation, etc. Better do some research. Let us not be naive, unscientific and irrational about Christian belief.
It is ok to believe in theistic evolution.

You do not speak for the whole of the Catholic faith. Many Catholics do in fact take Genesis very literally.

Indeed, some Catholics however DO take it literally and unfortunately so do many Muslims and Protestants.
I suggest you do a quick poll here and see how many really do believe that the Earth is only 6,000 years old!!!

What is your definition of research? The Question is not whether Catholics can believe in evolution and God, but evolution and the Bible. The Catholica Bible was edited so much especially the beginning, take it and compare it to the others.

So you are saying that the Catholics do not believe the Bible is true.
Yes or no, decide.
Otherwise your Catholics are just agnostics.
There is a surprisingly large corps of Fundamentalist Catholics who fully support Kent Hovind and Ken Ham and want Creationism taught in public schools.

I Agree. 1 day to God can mean 1 thousand years to him. But who cares if it was 7 days or 7 thousand years the bottom line is, God said let there be, and it was. And the one writer is correct, the bible says God rested on the 7th day . Sobeit, after all his glorious work he deserved to rest.

Hmmm... as I recollect it, everything got created in 6 days... and on the 7th day, the old goat rested.
Hey... I've got an idea... why don't you do some research?
In second thought... never mind. It's just a myth, anyway.

Well said.
Most atheists have done their homework. We know it wasn't created in 7 days. Supernovae and the light of distant stars prove it beyond a doubt.
