I've recently started training boxing, and the only strike I have trouble generating alot of power from is my left hook, any suggestions?

left hooks always feel awkward as hell at first, It's an all body movement and not done by your master hand.

All the "do this and do this and turn that and move that" advice here is true and fine, but at the end of the day you are just not used to the hooking action yet.

Stick to what your coach tells you, and you will get better at it, and all of a sudden one day you will 'feel it'.

it will be a combo of things.

foremost technique = left hook starts with moving - rotating your body 'into' the punch BEFORE you punch. A beginner's habit is to hook either using only elbow or shoulder power. You need to use the motion and energy from pushing your right leg into the ground, rotate you body and then crack that hook. As was pointed out here earlier = a hook is actually short and crisp. At first you tend to go too long and too far with your swing. Keep it short = you impact should be somewhere middle of your stance.

Conditioning = here's is why you do pushups like there is no tomorrow. Especialy the plyometrics = push off and clap in your hand before returning. If you do burpees = do a push up when you jump your legs back. Use a medicine ball and put your left hand on that, with your right on the floor. Do pushups on a yoga ball, both by placing your hands on it, and your feet off it.

Last = harden it all by good & technically clean punch bag sets.

A left hook is one of the most powerful punches you can throw at your opponent. Devastating as body shot too. Proper technique and some additional power, and you'll be punishing when throwing the hook :-)

Now drop and give me 20 :-P

First of all, keep your punches short and crisp. In throwing your hook, you must pivot on your left foot if throwing a left hook and vice-versa. Also twist your hips towards the punch's direction, putting all your body weight to the punch.

No left hook. Just straight up jabs to his face.
