I always buy the packs because they have expiration dates. I'm really picky about this kind of stuff, so usually about after a week or so I throw it away if it's from the deli. The packs are good for at least a month or two. How long is the meat from the deli good for?

I always use the 5 day rule...and throw out unused deli meat. The following website has guidelines all deli meats and other meats and how long they last in your refrigerator or freezer.

Once you've opened coldcuts (lunchmeat) you should never keep it past a week.In the health care field we never kept any past three days.
Lunchmeat from the deli goes by the same rules. They can only keep it in there coolers for so long. They also have to go be expiration days.
I would never eat lunchmeat that I had in the frig for a month or two, expiration date or not.
The board of health regulates all food stuffs. They have strict guidelines that must be followed. They don't want contaminated food on their hands and people getting ill or even dying.

Package meats will have alot of preservatives in them and will naturally keep longer. Unopened they will stay good to just past sell date. Deli meat his cut, left open in a refrigerated unit where it is exposed frequently to air-born germs and bacteria. I have never had deli meat last past 1 week unless I froze it. As an average, I'd say 5 days.

Spend 4 bucks a pound and it is done in 5 days or eat more preservatives at a slightly lower price and the product lasts 2 weeks.

I buy deli meat every week. It usually will last about 4 or 5 days. Sometimes a few more days too. It's easy to check if it's good by smelling for it to be sour.

My wife follows the 5 days MAX rule - throw it out no matter what.
I use the check-it rule:
Meats: smells okay, no moist slime on surface, it's good. Usually 7 to 10 days +/-; longer for hard salami.
Ham usually goes "bad" in 7 to 10 days, lunch meat & salami 10+ days.
Cheese: same applies good for 10+ days.

Can't afford to through away expensive deli meats, and buying 1/4 pound for two sandwiches get's difficult to manage.

It all depends. I have had turkey from the deli go bad in a few days and other that has lasted over a week. I can definitely tell from the smell and texture. If it has any kind of bad smell or has any kind of slimy feel, that means it is going bad or is bad, so I would discard it. If it smells fine and there is no slimy feel - you are probably okay.

This really depends how you store the meat.

If you store the meat from deli at -4 to 4 degree Celsius. It can last up to 2 week, the changes in temperature will determined the growth of bacteria.

But even though within 2 weeks, I see boil my ham (in water) or give it a quick cook on the frying pan before eating them.

Remember eating bad meat with make you very ill.

If you buy it from the deli, they will put a sticker on the meat showing the weight and price, it should tell you the date on it. If not, then I would ask the people behind the counter because they're the meat experts and I know they'll be able to tell you exactly what you're looking for : )
