Because it was ADDED centuries after the rest was written. From a quick review of the notes in my Greek New Testament, it was not known in the 4th century, but was later to one of the 4th century manuscripts.

This was likely an early HARMONIZATION with the very similar text of Mark 9:29. It was possibly originally written as a margin note in a manuscript which was later recopied and the note had been MISINTERPRETED as a correction / addition of a missing passage.

HannaJPaul... The agreement of Alef and B (4th century manuscripts called Sinaiticus and Vaticanus) is a good indicator that a passage is not authentic, but is not of itself sufficient to so claim. The entire body of evidence should be considered with appropriate weight given to the older manuscripts. Sinaiticus DOES contain this passage AS A LATER "CORRECTION." Since the content roughly parallels that of Mark 9:29, there is little doubt that it is a TRUE STATEMENT, it is just NOT SUPPORTED BY THE MANUSCRIPT EVIDENCE AT MATTHEW 17.

Because they compiled the Bible from different ancient sources and if the authors decided that a verse like Mat 17:21 was probably added into the text by a later redactor and was not in the original then they either omit it of they put it in brackets with a note explaining the details of how it is found in some texts but not in others.

Matthew 17:21 However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting."

Matthew 17:21 is not found in the oldest manuscripts. It was added to the cannon because it was found in the Latin Vulgate scriptures. There is another place you may find in the Bible that is under the same rule. Look at Mark 16:9-20, The authenticity of these last 12 verses has been disputed. If you'll look in the front of any Bible you'll find an explanation for these verses. Other Bibles that omitt them will have a foot note explaining there absents.

God be with you.

Matthew 17:21 reads: “However, this kind does not come out except by prayer and fasting.”

But the Sinaitic Manuscript and the Vatican Manuscript No. 1209, both of the fourth century C.E., omit these words. So they do not show up in the oldest Bible manuscripts which means they are spurious additions.

Yes, sunestauromai, spurious in the sense of fake, forged, counterfeit, unauthentic. That does not mean that the statement itself is untrue, for, as you rightly pointed out, it is in scripture elsewhere. But it is unauthentic in the sense that it did not belong specifically at Matthew 17:21. That is all I meant.

Hmmm.... Thats really weird because I just looked up that scripture in 3 different translations and none of them had Matt. 17:21..... They had verse 20 and 22 but not 21... That is SOOOOO strange and we know its not a typo because more than one translation didnt have it... That is something that I will have to look in to.

Depends which Bible you are reading. Not all Bibles are the same. Some omit entire books!

Yakub wants to trick you.

Yakub (also spelled Yacub or Yakob), was an evil scientist responsible for creating the white race — a race of devils, in their view. Yakub created white people by a process of grafting the "black germ" to a "white germ" from the original black population of the world. It took 600 years for Yakub and his successors to fully whiten his creations. This was achieved under a despotic regime on the island of Patmos.[1] The reasons for Yakub's actions are unclear.

The bible is heavily edited as it is, and this is but another example. The Council of Niceaa left out 300+ accounts of the life of Jesus when it created the New Testament in the 4th century. It's a work of fiction designed as a tool of social control so it gets amended whenever it is necessary to assert the controls deemed necessary.

I did not know that it was. It is not in the New World Translation:

Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will.

I guess some people feel that the disciples had the faith capable of exorcising the demon and were only unable because of their ignorance as to how to perform the exorcism.

This might make sense if they felt very strongly toward certain disciples, like if they were their patron saint.
