My parents have decided that a family trip to the cabins for the week is a great idea, I however disagree. All family vacations bring me are headaches, anger, and borderline depression. I need to find a way to convince my parents to let me hold down the fort while they go to the mountains. I am 18 and very responsible, so I do not think I am making a huge request, but they are hard to sway. I have not asked them yet so your suggestions on how to approach the conversation and things to say would be GREATLY appreciated.

You are old enough to be trusted at home for a week, after all you should be going away to college soon. You could get a job so that you have a conflict, or you could simply tell them you would like to try a week on your own so that you know how it will be to be at school. If you do that, devise a plan of what you will do with your time, and take on a project at home that you can complete in a week.

Otherwise you could just simply realize that in a year your life will be forever changed and this is the very last time you will get to be a child with your folks on vacation. You have a very long life ahead of you where you will never again have this freedom. You could simply change your attitude and seize the moment.

You are 18, so they cannot make you go. But they might refuse to let you stay in the house while they're gone. In that situation, I would ask a close friend if I could stay with them instead.

good luck, trying to convince them....

honestly i would go. you are young and you probably take those things for granted, but the truth is that one day you are going to look back at those memories with joy.

our parents are not everlasting and we grow up and our lives get complicated, maybe it the last time that you will all be able to go on vacation together.... i haven't been able to go on vacation with my parents in years because i have kids and our work schedules clash.

go with your parents and have a good time. they are trying to make memories with you. trust me, there are worst things in life... and besides how many times do you think you will be able to go up to the cabins for free?

have fun!!!!!!!!

I think you should go. Enjoy time w/ your parents! They won't be around for ever. When they leave this earth, you will look back and wish you had taken more opportunities to spend quality time w/ them!

Get a job and move out to your own place. That should solve the problem.
