When they say "First off..."or "first of all..." & then tell you something hideously insulting?

I'm not sure.

The reality is that some people don't realize they are being insulting when they say certain things.

The other issue is maybe you took something personally when you shouldn't have.

When I say those two phrases when speaking to someone, chances are I'm explaining a situation to them that has nothing to do with them. Maybe it's the same here.

Maybe you should ask this person what they meant. I don't know this person so I don't know how to interpret this tiny portion of a discussion.

I know it's not best to jump to a conclusion and have it be the wrong one.... because i've done it a hell of a lot! LOL

it definately sounds to me that way, i mean the language htey are using indicates to me that it seems like that for sure.
