My daughter, Massie-Lynne, has been bugging me for weeks about this boy in her class. She is a beautiful girl... so I understand... but she pursuades most guys by telling them she's a model... which she is. She's only twelve years old and wants to bring him to the movies. Now, she says she is officially dating him!!!! I'm not sure if she is too young or not!!! Can you help or give advice?

Agree to take her on a chaperoned date if this boy wants to come. take them to the movies, sit a few rows behind them, make sure they dont do anything inapropriate, and that should be fine. dont let them go anywhere alone. mostly though, 12 year olds just hold hands and proudly announce that they have a boyfriend or girlfriend. but if her grades fall, tell her to forget about it. then she will have good grades and a boyfriend!

most people underestimate the responsibility of 12 year olds, which bugs me alot. i feel that i am old enough and responsible enough to go on chaperoned dates, unfortunatly nobody else has the priveledge :(

She is too young, and the boy is also probably too young to make a good decision on the person they pick to be their girlfriend or boyfriend. They are also not mature enough to be consistant in the way they think or do things, so it is not time for them to make that decision. Explain this to your daughter... and express this opinion to the boy also (if you agree) If the children both really want to hang out together as friends, I think that is fine... but considering that your daughter thinks she wants more than friends with him, you should keep a close eye on her, and maybe try to get to know the boy. Don't allow them to go and be someplace alone, however.

Hi. I myself believe that she's too young to date and to have an official boyfriend. You are her mother and you actually have the say so about your daughter having a boyfriend, not her. If your child wants to go to the movies with a boy, take them and stay with them. Give a little space there if you want to, meaning in the theater. Be careful about this!

Its just puppy love. When I was 12 having a boyfriend meant holding hands and going roller blading. I think that single dates are a little much for that age but I'd allow her to go in groups or to the movies if you're going to sit a couple rows back.

What does concern me is that she's getting boyfriends because she tells them shes a model. I hope she's really not that superficial. Saying that just to attract boys will not attract the good ones.

In my opinion I think that she is a little to young. I would say she should enjoy her youth. Just because she is a model is no excuse to have a boyfriend at a young age. But like they say mother knows best. What does your gut instinct say? That is usually the way to go... Good Luck!

I didn't date until I was 16 and that was my choice. Sure I had what they call "puppy love" but I only saw him at school.

I think dating at 12 is a little young. Maybe a compromise, like a group date. Maybe if 4-5 go together? If you think she wont notice, you could even sneak in to check it out. My sister and her boyfriend followed me on my first date when I was in the 7th grade. I dont remember how old I was....maybe 13? I dont know...that was quite some time ago.

12 is WAY too young to go to the movies alone of course. But if she wanted to let you take a group of her friends that would be cool. (Take and actually chaperone not just drop off as some parents are in the habit of doing, bad idea) As far as her saying she's dating him...that just means they are "boyfriend/girlfriend" which is totally normal. But if it were my little girl. I'd limit that to meaning she could hang out at school, write notes, im, with him or go on chaperoned group "dates." (and those wouldn't even be coupled dates) I would limit that interaction too. 12 yr old girls should be finding out who they are, what they love, what they want to be, developing friendships. I don't want my girl to begin to let her relationships (or lack thereof) with boys define her which is where a lot of teenagers are these days. I'm pretty conservative when it comes to this subject but I'm trying to protect my little angel!!

If I had a 12 year old daughter I would not let her date that young...But I agree with the first answer, you should go with them. I wouldn't let them go out somewhere by themselves when they are that young.

well i would let her cuz she is going to start dateing soon anyways. And i thi nk she should just figure out now that boys are stupid and gross most of the time and if u let her she wont do it behind ur back! and u want her to beable to tell you about the guy and not keep it from u that will just lose trust between you guys

Careful, children that young should be focusing on other things besides boys. Maybe you can persuade her to join a sport or other activities so she won't be so fixated on boys. Besides, you don't want to end up with a grandchild at the wrong time!
