What breed is it? Some shed more then others. And during shedding season your house will be covered in dog hair! It is normal. Now if it isn't the shedding season, and if your dog is a breed that doesn't shed much, and is still loosing a lot of hair, then it is MAYBE health issues. Most of the time the solution is as simple as the food you are feeding it. Are you feeding him grocery store food? (such as -God forbid- Purina? Pedigree?) Food like that will promote nothing but an unhealthy dog. It's as if your eating Mcdonald's every day! You might not see the consequences now, but they are slowly accumulating. Loss of hair is one of them.
I have a rough collie (Lassie) you know how much hair that has! I am now feeding him Innova evo. I don't see one single strand of hair in my house. His coat is shiny and vibrant, and I never have any health problems with him..
Also, you need to brush the doggie regularly.

It depends upon the breed, or whether its a longhair or shorthair, the vet will have to check your dogs weight etc to see if it is poor nutrition that is causing the shedding. The is not enough info to say for sure. But if its a dog that is not supposed to shed too much, then id be concerned. Get the shed ender brush, they work great!

Your veterinarian is definitely the first person to discuss this with, but my first guess when people have this problem is bad nutrition...if you're buying dog food at the grocery store or Wal-Mart, that's probably the first thing to change.
I recommend finding a better food...here's a link to a site that offers a dealer finder for PMI Exclusive dog food (It's what I feed my 4 dogs): http://www.pminutrition.com ...After switching to this food, their shedding was cut at least in half, and my 10-year old dog seemed to get younger...they feel better, they poop less, and the shedding is under control. It's a little more expensive per bag, but even with free-feeding, the dogs eat a lot less of it.
Eukanuba also makes a good dog food, according to my vet, but I am very impressed with the PMI food, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

Dogs always shed - in summer a lot. Give her a thorough brushing and a bath. Brush her a couple of times per week to keep the hair to a minimum.

Lots of dogs are shedding heavily right now with the summer heat. If you don't see bald spots, then the shedding is probably normal. If you see bald or thin spots, or the dog is itchy, then not normal.

depends on the breed..my dogs are dash hound better known as weenie dogs and they are shedding also but long haired dogs do shed alot..just brush the dog..and if it continues he may be lacking something in his diet.If he sheds for a longer period of time then 2 weeks you may need to consult your vet
