Latin is key to learning othe languages such as english, french and especially italian because alot of latin root words are used by these languages therefore it would be easier to pick up on words and their meanings in other languages if you know the meaning in latin. My first language was spanish and I understand english very well. I am one of the best english students in my grade. I thank knowing spanish for that. For example: Balon in spanish is Ball in english. See the resemblance? Telefono is Telephone.
Lampara in spanish, is Lamp in english, Lampada in Italian, and Lampe in french.
Hope I was able to help answer your question.

Im a spanish speaker and I had 3 years of latin at highschool (i learned to make sintactic analisis mainly) . It may be true that a lot of english words come from latin, but its structure is very different. Latin uses 5 delensions (each contains these cases nominative, vocative, acusative, genitive, dative, ablative), this means that depending on what use you give to a word it is spelled and pronounced differently, i havent seen this in english at all, or at least its so "hidden" that knowing this wont help at all. Anyway, i dont think it would help you learn english faster or better, most of the things you'll learn with latin (and i mean semantics and gramatics) are not really used in english. The only benefit youll get from latin is learning where some words came from. Besides its a very complex language to learn, it can be easier depending on what languages you know. It would help a LOT with german (since it has 4 of those declension cases) and spanish, most likely with italian and french too but i have no knowledge of any of these languages. Hope this helps.

Latin is the root language of all European languages. It just so happens that when you understand Latin, you can understand French, spanish and other languages. It helps you with english cuz many of the English words originate from Latin. If you dont know the meaning of a word in English, look for the latin root and you can probably find the meaning in english, if you know the meaning in the Latin root

Yes, I suppose it's. It's now not relatively a useless language, even though. It's nonetheless spoken within the Vatican. It's additionally the groundwork of a number of greatly-spoken languages, akin to French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. Learned Latin will make finding out someone of those languages less complicated. Many English phrases are derived from Latin phrases; simply take a appear on the dictionary and become aware of the etymology of the phrases there. Learning every other language, without reference to whether or not or now not it is greatly used anymore, raises the mind's productiveness and is helping one see matters in a brand new mild. In different phrases, opt for it!

Latin forms the basis for about 50% of the English language. by studying it, you learn the root meanings of those English words, and also get a step up in learning the "Romance" languages (i.e., from Rome, where Latin was spoken), which include Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, French, and Romanian as its major derivatives.

You asked for benefits:
1. You English vocabulary range will increase.
2. As it is complex, it seems to have the effect of stretching your brains and forcing it to work, and this has been shown to have a knock-on effect in other subjects.
3. There is a literature that spans over 2000 years.
4. It will improve your job prospects, as employers associate Latin with 'smart'.
5. If you've learned none yet, have a test drive: http://latinum.mypodcast.com

Nobody really speaks Latin anymore, even though they do teach it in some schools. If you need legal terms or Christian texts from the Vatican, then you'd need Latin.
Knowing Latin helps with learning Romance languages [Spanish, Italian, Romanian, French, Portuguese, etc...]
