i need help when i try reformatting my laptop
it says volume in use
i tried using format in command it doesnt work even in safe mood
windows xp installation my laptop doesnt have a disk its a vaio any help please

only way to reformat is from a windows setup disk or viao oem disk that came with the computer

or a flobby boot disk with msdos. then you can FORMAT your c: drive

by using the bootable disks (floppy or xp cd), windows doesn't get loaded. then its safe to remove the windows files

if windows loads (even safemode) then you cannot delete files that are in use.

you can't reformat without an xp disk or the viao disk that came with the computer

you can format, but your missing the RE part. you'd have a blank drive with nothing to put on it.

You wont be able to format that way. You will need the installation cd- You cant format the drive if you are running the OS. Formatting will get rid of the operating system. You could use a third party software to format if you need to... before bootup.

This is the way I reload windows, including reformatting the hard drive.
