Clearly, without polygamy the Mormon church would not exist today.
The First President and Founder of LDS, Joseph Smith, created polygamy as a "moral" way to take several lovers. He had 34 wives.
It was also Smith who started the "child bride" facet of Mormonism by taking teenage brides as young as 14.
The Second President of the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints, Brigham Young was the worse recorded with 51 wives and 56 children.
The Third President of the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints (1880-1887) had 7 wives and 35 children
The Fourth President of the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints (1889-1898) had 6 wives.
The Fifth President of the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints (1898-1901) had 10 wives.
The Sixth President of the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints (1901-1918) had 48 children between his 6 wives

first of all joseph smith died before polygamy was even practiced. polygomy wasn't started until brigham young started moving the saints from missouri to utah. they only took on other wives with the permission from God to help the women who lost their husbands on the long trek west. polygomy ended in 1890. as far as 14 year olds, in that time of history did not all people, christians, muslims, jews, etc, marry at young ages. people during that time were lucky to live to their 50's.

originally? no, the church didn't introduce polygamy for a while after the introduction of the church.
I do say, yes, we did practice polygamy, but through modern revalation (just like the way it was introduced) it was taken away, and the modifier to Polygamy is that polygamy was practiced as a calling, people didn't voulunteer to be a polygamist, they were ordained, and only with the concent of both their wife and the man.

Why do people think that plural marriage is all about sex? If it were sex, then Joseph Smith would have done what John Bennett was excommunicated for, what he called "spiritual wifery", or saying that it was OK to have sex because they were married in the eyes of God, if not in te eyes of the law.
At least these men took responsibility for their women and children. Which is more than I bet a lot of the men in government who outlawed plural marriage, were doing.
Do you really think it was easy for these men to have all those wives and children?

No
It was founded on the gospel of Jesus Christ. With priesthood authority, and additional scripture. Apostles and prophets, the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
True polygamy was practiced after the church was started and when it became illegal it was stopped.
My great great grandfather had 3 wives at one time, and when it became illegal no one in my great great grandfather's family ever practiced it again.
NOT founded on polygamy -- founded on Jesus Christ
