Cipro also takes 2-3 days to make a difference on average. Unjustified prescription of ciprofloxacin (or any other reserved antibiotic) only serves to increase the rate of antibiotic resistance in a bacterial population.

Your doctor prescribed the appropriate antibiotic. Your symptoms do not sounds like an allergy and can be purely due to the urinary infection.

Drink plenty of water. See if you can get a urinary alkalinising agent from the chemist (Ural or Citravescent or some such).

Ginger tea or other anti-nausea medications are useful. Also take some pain relief - paracetamol (aka acetaminophen) or ibuprofen if you are able to have it.

If your symptoms become a big problem for you, perhaps you should see your doctor again and tell them what is going on. They might give you anti-nausea medicines and pain relief. They might change your antibiotic.

You MUST see your doctor if things are getting bad particularly: rash or swelling - back pains - worsening fevers - loss of appetite

Sulfa drugs are known to cause gastrointestinal discomfort - I am curious as to why your doctor prescribed this for you. Are you allergic to pencillin or any other antibiotics? Common drugs prescribed for a UTI are ciprofloxacin or a single-dose antibiotic like Monurol. If your UTI symptoms are improving, continue to take your medicine for the prescribed time. You can alleviate the bloating and nausea in the meantime by eating with your medication and drinking ginger tea or eating candied ginger slices. It may take 2-3 days to see improvement. After this time, if you feel you aren't getting better, see your doctor again.

Bummer about your UTI. Sounds like you are just having the usual discomfort with a bad UTI. You need something along with your antibiotic to calm your discomfort. I know that they sell pyridium OTC in most drug stores. In the US it goes under the name UroStat, and can be found in the feminine hygeine aisle. Continue your antibiotic, take it with food or milk to ease any GI upset, and try to get some pyridium also. It is also very very important to increase your fluid intake...lots of water, low sugar juices, etc, to help flush out the bacteria from your urinary tract and bladder. If symptoms persistent or worsen, contact your doctor ASAP.

Try eating yogurt with ACTIVE cultures to reintroduce the good bacteria into your system. If you can't stand yogurt, go get some acidophilus pills and start to take them asap. To prevent further troubles, eat blueberries every day and keep a bottle of freeze-dried cranberry (in capsule form) on hand so you can take them as soon as you feel one coming on. You can drink cranberry juice but most only have 10% juice and there is enough sugar added to complicate a UTI instead of cure it. Hope you feel better!

This drug is bacteral static. That is it does not rapidly kill the bacteria and it will take a 2-3days to make a real difference. Your doctor cheaped out on you. He should have given Cipro.
If your stomach is giving you problems, you may need to be switched. Tell him about it.

To the great brain below- Dead bugs don't mutate...IT IS WHEN THE WRONG RX IS GIVEN OR POOR COMPLIANCE WHICH IS THE PROBLEM WITH MUTATIONS.
