twin 1 year olds??

Question

My friend (husband died and left her with 3 kids), has twin boys who are 1 year of age. When I come and spend time with them they are fine when they can see mom...but when she leaves me with them one will start crying and cause the other to cry..and they don't stop..help!!

and they also do see me everyday..and they didn't even know they had a father...

they are just being babies. they are very attached to their mother right now, my little cousin does the exact same thing. give it time and they will warm up

These children have been traumatized, and they are reacting to having their father gone. When mommy goes, they react with fear.

Perhaps they need another baby sitter, someone they see more often and with whom they interact better? It's not a comment to say you are a bad sitter--just that they might need someone more nurturing and maternal because they've been through a lot.

They didn't know they had a father because he was not in their lives, or because you think they were too young to know him? Because they were not too young.

She cryied when I left
She was afraid of me leaving her like her day
A death to a small child, is someone leaving and not coming back
The twin is afraid her mom will not come back

It sounds like a pretty normal response for 1 year olds.....

take them out of the room when their mother leaves dont let them see her walk out the door (remember if you saw someone you love leave you without saying anything not knowing they would come back you would be angry and upset too) constantly remind them that their mother is coming back
