Grants if possible, that's free money. Scholarships too. Loans if you have to. Much depends on what program you're going into. The best advice that I can give you based on the available information is to go immediately to the counselor's/guidance office of the college which you will be attending and ask them this same question. There are many different ways in which they can help you including a work/study program.

I would certainly apply immediately for a Federal Pell Grant which is awarded primarily based on financial need. Ask about that too while you're there. The more scholarships you apply for, the better chance you have of getting one.
Good luck,
Stephen

Fill out the FAFSA with the college you are attending on there. Depending on your EFC(Expected Family Contribution), you will be sent an award letter. If you qualify for a Federal Pell Grant, it will be listed on the award letter with the amount your receiving for the year. If your receiving a grant from the state you live in, then that will also be listed on that. You will also be able to probably get a loan as well, all depending on your EFC. If you decide to use that loan on there(subsidized or unsubsidized), you will have to sign a promissory note, which is a contract basically saying you agree to repay it all after graduation. Personally, I didn't apply for any scholorships, there is no need to, I was already getting more than enough from the Pell Grant and State Grant I got and the loan I got. But, if you somehow still got to pay for some of your schooling after Grants and Loans, apply for scholorships and apply for them as early as you can. Scholorships are just like grants in a way, you don't have to pay either of them back, loans you do have to pay back. Almost everyone I know gets a loan or two, but if you can limit it to a very little amount, do it, its for the best. So if you receive any grants, be thankful. If not, bust your butt trying to get as many scholorships as you can.

Yes, scholarships are the way to go! Be sure you filled out the FAFSA thing first and foremost.
After that, what I did was....I contacted the Financial Aid department at school, and they sent me a list of available scholarships. There are SO many out there. Also, you can just stop by there and pick them up! Go ahead and apply early....apply for whatever you are eligible for! They usually allow you to apply for all of them by filling out one sheet. Ask if they have that option.
My county also had scholarships available through the Ruitan Club. You might want to try to see what scholarships are available through churches, also.

If you can't get a scholarship, try the Pell Grant. You can also contact CFI. This is the website I found the info at:
http://www.cfnc.org/
However, this is through NC...maybe there's one for your state.

Good Luck! Have fun in college....it was a blast for me!

you should definetely try to get grants. but beware, many of those have strings attached. such as a pell grant if you fall below full-time status it then becomes a loan with an aggressive interest rate. also, if you flunk a class it will be come a loan.

try to get scholarships, but always read the fine print. when i was in highschool i found fastweb.com to be a valuable resource.

if you get loans be very selective, it can haunt you for the rest of your life. if you get a student loan and default on it, they can take your taxes, they can garnish your wages, and put liens on properties, and even take away your professional licenses.

BEWARE

Well go to fast web and apply for as many scholarships as possible. However they are not gauranteed, so it seems like the next logical step are loans. First apply for FEDERAL LOANS through FASA.gov. If you do not get enough money from there, try a Private loan, although the interest will be higher. But first try to get as much money as possible with the federal loan money and scholarships. Apply to scholarships through your school as well.

Did you complete the FAFSA and send it in to the college? They'll send you information on scholarships, work study, loans and grants.

Work with your college's financial office to get more info.
