A regular envelope costs 41 cents to mail anywhere in the US....It depends on the weight of the letter and if it's outside the normal/accepted size limitsand if you are sending it 1st class or what..... here's a link

for a standard letter 1ounce or less a stamp(s) worth 42 cents.
Above that the price increases. You can go to the United States Post Office website and find how much per ounce per package size it would cost to mail.

Didnt need a stamp. Found a way to beat the postage. After I wrote the letter, I scanned it and emailed the scan as an attachment in an email to my friend! A-ha! Saved licking an envelope, too. She actually appreciated the hand-written note! Isn't THAT quaint?!
