They're semi-literate; they paid no attemtion in class; the internet encourages that crap. Take your pick.

Bravo to all previous posters.
The Internet and all those little electronic devices that seem to rule the world these days do indeed encourage poor spelling and poor grammar. People no longer believe that it matters to really study and actually implement rules - be they orthographic or grammatical.
Schools are rushing from one test preparation session to the next, but because of all the tests and exams, pupils cannot write anymore. Dictations and handwritten essays (I also went to Catholic school and had nuns as teachers -- Loreto Sisters) have mostly disappeared and correcting a pupil is seen as a hostile act.
Sometimes I wonder, if we are all going to hell in a hand basket!

Seems obvious they just did not pay attention too well in school. Yet again, some people are just terrible spellers. So we can forgive some and gently remind others.

It's not a mix up, and it has nothing to do with texting.
Texting gives them the idea that IDK, WTF and LOL are proper ways of communicating.
It's ignorance, not paying atttention in English class, not wanting to be literate, not caring......take your pick.
My Aunt was a professor at Northwestern in the 70's. She said her junior class couldn't even write a paper the correct way. I'm sure it's even worse now.

The internet's influence has completely butchered the English language. It's absurd and I wish it could be fixed but I don't have high hopes...

Because they're stupid idiots and they say you're rude if you try to correct them. They think it's PC to ignore their annoying mistakes.
