Most states require that you get a Doctor to sign off on a Handicap license plate or temporary placard.

Take your medical records to a family physician and see if they will get one approved for you. Then you will have to go to the DMV and get new license plates. I doubt that you will have much of a problem getting approved.

It probably depends on whether or not you were determined unable to work. Also, most states require a person to be crippled for parking decals; if you are 70% due to battle fatigue, Gulf War Syndrome, etc, you probably are ineligible. The litmus test is, do you need help (cane, wheel chair, etc) to get around.

VA disability rating has nothing to do with handicap parking availability. A state handicap placard must be obtained from the DMV after you get the proper forms completed by your physician.

Ask your Dr on that they should be able to give a application for that. Here in VA it cost $5 for the app. being that you perm. disabled and with the medical paper to prove it i do not see why not. I am ret navy and I just went through a knee operation @ one of the medical facilities here in my area and I asked my Dr for a handicap parking pass and she gave me a application went to DMV and got one.
