Yes, I believe the Earth is a living organism, just not in the ways that we've come to narrowly define such a concept. But how to re-acquire the possible lost balance? I'm not sure that human beings can do such a thing. In terms of time, we are akin to just a few seconds in the life-span of the Earth. The "harm" that the human race has visited on the Earth will eventually be balanced by the Earth itself. What shape such action will take is a true unknown -- but I truly believe that the Earth is capable of healing Herself and will do on Her own time frame.

The Earth is a very dynamic planet with various cycles that that all life interacts with and to an extent influences. If you're talking about the recent Live Earth concerts/global warming and conservation, there really is no single easy answer...

There is a good discussion regarding G.W and conservation issues on the show Planet Earth that provides some of the reasons why this is so

ultimately though, I agree with the person above who stated that we have to reduce the population...by means of birth control etc...but again, it's not as simple as that and the very thought imposes implications

To replace lost balance we'd need to decrease the human population-I hear it's already happening in China and England b/c of lower birth rates.
Is it a living organism? Sort of. I think it produces living things (plants) so it is organic but it's one step along the 'food chain'.

The earth is a big rock with a molten iron core. No, it's not a living organism. It just has organisms living on it's surface.

Why would you give me a thumbs down for stating a fact? Read a science book.

The Earth is a living organism yes. I am afraid I am at a loss as to how to remedy the current imbalance. I think the Earth might find human absence a relief...

In fact, to think we have the power to effect any balance the Earth might have is arrogant...

Define living organism.

It's an ecosystem, and it is out of balance due to that "be fruitful & multiply" crap.

STOP PUMPING OUT BABIES, people! If you have (or plan to have) more than two, you should be ashamed of yourself!
