I am going on a plane trip next month and the carry-on says that it can not be more the 45inches total in demension, but no where can I find how big your second carry-on (purse, briefcase...........) can be. How big is the room under the seat?

Careful here. Many airlines are starting to say "one carry on only" However I do have an over the shoulder bag that I keep my "don't lose no matter what stuff" in. I don't think that there is a hard and fast size rule for this but when I am at the check in counter I always make sure that the bag is at my back not facing the counter person. They are going to look at your carry on and in many cases weigh the bag. If they notice that you are carrying a large secondary, even if its a purse. They will call you on it. everywhere from Check your primary carry on to pay for overweight. Check with your airline and be sneaky.

The purse cannot be larger than 45 linear inches as well. I (and lots of other people) are fudging a bit as to what constitutes a "purse."
