I asked a question about my weight and got replies like "stop eating shamu." I was just blown away by the rudeness I saw.

Because we're a bunch of nobodies as far as they're concerned and they don't make the effort to keep it polite because we (and our opinions) don't matter to them. If they make us mad, the most we can do is report them and have the answer deleted as a violation of the rules but it's not like there would be real consequences. If they're rude to their spouse, boss or a police officer, THEN there's consequences.

I've had people that asked question ADD to their question just to put down my answer when I was trying to be helpful and polite. There's just a lot of whack jobs here.

There are rude people everywhere, but online you'll find even more because a lot of people who wouldn't dare being so rude in person feel all strong and confident when they can be anonymous.

However, the best thing to do is to ignore them. While of course a few of the rude people are just people who feel very strongly about a certain topic and can't contain themselves, most of these rude folks are bullies. Bullies aren't rude because they care that much about the issue they're talking about, but they thrive on the reactions they get! Any time someone responds to them, either in a later answer or by posting a question like yours, they love it, that's exactly what they want. Either ignore them or just hit the 'report' flag without posting any response for everyone to see, and leave it at that. If no one would react to their flaming, they'd get bored and find something else to do, unfortunately on a large board like this there will always be some who will respond...

Apparently you were so blown away that you blew the question away. It's no longer accessible from your list, so we can only speculate.

It may be because some people are really insecure and take that out on others.

It may be because your question came across as really, really stupid--even if it wasn't actually. (There's a button available that says something like, "I'll try to be nicer if you'll try to be smarter." It's funny because we are either like that and/or we know plenty of people who are.) Then again, you may have left out or obscured enough info that it WAS a stupid question!

It may be partly because your handle appears without the "and T" unless clicked on, making it look as tho you really think everything IS about you.

Some people are only concerened about getting points. They want to answer so they can move on to their next victim. Others think they are being funny. They feel that since you opened a question about your weight you knew you would recieve a "funny" (rude) answer. That somehow your question isn't serious. So I hope you let the rude answers roll off your back.

gjkishere - no one should have to get used to it on here.

I've used the 'report abuse' option a few times on here and I haven't been here for long. Too many kids and rude people here. Perhaps they should have an R18 section?!

Just ignore it as much as possible though #1, there are still some genuine people out there :)

For one, more people are incredibly rude these days and it's annoying....political correctness seems to allow this rather than check it and for two....anonymity gives people the feeling they can do what they want without any repercussions. It's a sad statement on where we are in life and where we are going. We have to be thicker skinned than ever to handle the nitwits in life.

People these days have no idea what respect is (or don't use it when they think they don't have to) and speak their minds... thinking they can wherever and whenever they feel. Here on Yahoo!, though, they can do so without being caught, without the need to be fought about the matter straight up.

It's a combination of low self-esteem and stupidity. They can't think of anything intelligent to say, so they spit out a rude comment instead.

Don't worry. Disregard their statements. You're obviously better than the rude morons who fill this forum with spam and abuse.

Expect rude answers, it's just a part of YA. Just don't let it bother you. There will always be some who try to answer your questions the most helpful way they can :-)

Did you come to this web site for nice people or people who would never be mean or honest to your face but here they can express the anger they are not allowed in public.
In other words it brings out the worst in us.
