Spending three days in Istanbul and looking for suggestions for the most important things to do. Not a huge museum fan. More into landmarks, places to walk around. Would like to go to a beach one day. Which beaches are nice and easy to reach from the city?
I'm a vegetarian so any tips on veggie options?
Also, is it best for women to dress modestly or will I be comfortable in Western summer gear?

The Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia are must sees.
If you are truly adventerous, try a bazaar.
You will be pegged as a foreigner, so prepare yourself to be bombarded with rug salesmen. Not too sure about the beaches, I'm sure their are some public ones, but with all the shipping traffic, I'd be a little hesitant to swim in the Sea of Marmara.

European Side:
Dolmabahce Palace
Ciragan Palace
Yildiz Palace
These palacaes are very close to the area called Ortakoy.
Ortakoy is a wonderful place. You can go to the cafes just next to the sea, watch the Bosphorus Bridge and boats pasiing by. There you also have a lot of hand made jewelry selling people. Old books if you go on Sunday.

Then There is Taksim Beyoglu area where you can have a very dynamic nite life . And a lot of different restaurants. Babylon, Kemanci are some of the bars, clubs i can recommend.

Near Sariyer there is Bebek, Kurucesme where the night life is very active. You can always go to Reina, Sortie these are open night clubs just next to the sea.

Istanbul is surrounded by a huge desert of the East. Always try to look like a Turk in your gear.
