I want to be a stand up comic....any tips?

I have about 20 minutes of meateral and 15 is pretty good...i have done my bit for friends and family...and am going to open mic night this week....

Being a stand up comic is tough. You may be funny, but what really matters is that you connect with the audience. You need to do hand-gestures and yell a lot. Second, you need to do jokes that everyone can relate to. Jerry Seinfeld and Dane Cook are two great examples of that. Their jokes are about everyday life. Also, when you're up on stage, give your second best joke first to keep the audience in the room, and best joke last so that they come back. If you have material now, you can go try to get work at local bars or clubs. Good luck.

jokes are important and learning to be confident in front of an audience is important too. But the most important thing to have as a stand up comic is timing. Timing is everything. You can have the best jokes in the world but if your timing is bad, nobody will laugh. you're asking for career advice at yahoo, so at least you got a sense of humor. anyways, keep practicing. good luck

Practice and share your new material on answers so you know if it's funny or not.
Don't get monotonous and tell the best jokes you know/have made up!

Are you funny when you stand up? Practice makes good, try to be yourself, sometimes it good to have props, being funny should come naturally, and when things slip up, smile alot, learn to say oops!!! Good luck to you

Practice with someone heckling you and see how well you can turn it around on them.Good luck I admire people that go after what they want.

well the only advice i can give u is that u should make fun of yourself first and then make fun of the audiance and that how u knock em dead.
