I heard this morning a woman was stabbed in a store and the security camera recorded 5 people who walked around her or over her, one taking a picture with a camera phone before 911 was called and she died before help arrived. Would you be a Good Samaritan a case like this or would you be like the Pharisees & Levis and walk on by? or worse yet take a picture without helping?

Jonathan, What you said is true, but what would YOU do?

EG4God, I know many of us want to be like the Good Samaritan but it is hard. Thank you for your honesty.

Smiley George and Father K....you are truly examples to live up to. Thanks for sharing.

I wish you were joking, but with being saddened, disgusted and angered, I know it would be true.
Unfortunately people, even Christians, or those who claim to be, seem to only care about themselves or 'what's in it for me'... as in the sicko with the camera phone.
..."When I was alone, you invited me in, When I was hungry you fed me..." says God!
Take Heed!!!

Oh my WORD! How horrible! I hope that state has a Samaritan Law like others do!

Honey - as for me, I'm a people watcher. I try to keep an eye out for someone to help. When a little kid looks lost in the store - I help them find their folks. When someone is stranded on the side of the road - I pull over and offer them my cell to call for help and stay until it comes. If I witness a wreck - I hit 911 and try to help. Stray pets - I catch them and take them home to their owner or get them to a shelter. Homeless folks - I get them a Salvation Army pass for a place to sleep and buy them a meal.

I'm sort of alone in this world - no husband, no kids... partially disabled... I know that somebody has to help the hurting - because when we help the "least of these" you've done it to Christ.

I'm forever trying to find help for people no matter the circumstance - no matter the situation. It frightens me to be alone and helpless - I NEVER want someone else to feel that way! If I can't physically do something - I get prayer partners on the case in a hurry. I've seen too many miracles in my life and had too many miraculous answers to prayer (even just this morning) to discount the power of prayer.

As for THIS scenerio - there is NO WAY I could let someone just lay there injured. You're supposed to apply pressure to the wound. I'd have 911 on speaker while trying to DO something!!!

I really do hope there is a Samaritan Law - those folks who didn't render aid should be arrested and fined.

GRRRRRRRRRRR! Peace.

This happened here in Kansas, and it is appalling, unfortunately, what most don't know, is that it was gang related, and the people that stepped over and took pictures were part of that gang. Yes, even here in Kansas we have gangs. It is unfortunately just another byproduct of our society. We have children raising themselves, left without fathers in the homes, and mothers that are not prepared financially or educationally to provide for them. Unfortunately, the situation referred to is not isolated. In that area of town, in Wichita, it is a pretty rough area. Does it make it right? Absolutely not. I know that I would not have been able to stand by and not help. What you will also not hear about is that the EMT's were there only 2 minutes after the call, but had to wait on the other side of the street until the police secured the area. Again, because of the gang violence, they couldn't risk more injuries or fatalaties. Vicious cycle, to a vicious act. Sad, but true.

We live in a self centered world and I strive to be a good samartian to help and encourage others.

There have been times I have been like the Levis and Pharisees looking down on people and judging situations that I know nothing about.

Giving is only giving when you don't expect anything in return.

James 4:17 If you know the good and do not do it it is sin.

Everyone must give an account to God in the end.

I am sorry this happened to this woman. Thank you for posting.

I would certainly help in anyway I could. I'd have one of the Gawkers call 911 and I would render aid as a first responder.

A couple of years ago, I was witness to a road rage incident where one driver forced another off the road and cause him to run into a telephone pole. The agressive driver then got out of his car and sucker punched the victim in the face while he was still in his vehicle bleeding. I immediately ran to aid the victim and took the license plate of the offender as he drove off. Other bystanders just stood around and rubbernecked. The police showed up within minutes and I was able to help track down the offender and he was quickly arrested.

I just look at it this way - What if it were me? I'd want someone to help me if I were in this situation.

Jan,
It is sad that some believe themselves to be Christians and watch such a thing happen. In this country there are a large percentage of people who say they are Christians. Where are they when someone needs help? I have always been one to step up to the plate when needed but I can not imagine watching or taking pictures rather than helping. Can you?? All I can think is what will these people do when Christ arrives to Judge them? It will be sad on that day when HE says, "I never knew you". Have a wonderful week young lady!
Thank you,
Eds

Now my answer would definitely be that i would help. But honestly in the situation itself i don't know what i would possibly do, But my first instinct would definitely be to help.

If i walked away it wouldn't be because i don't care but rather because i am afraid.( that's the honest truth)

In my country it is really scary, people just walk up to people and hurt them everyday- and its usually because they were involved in some kind of wrongdoing. If you try to help, most likely you will end up dead. Its not a pretty world.

Its not that i am concerned about myself but i have to think about my child. If something happened to me, what would become of her?

Honestly, if the courage is there and at the time my conviction is strong, then i would help in a heartbeat, but i cannot say for sure what i would do until i am placed in the situation, and i hope to God I'm not.

God bless

I try to lend a hand where I can. Just the other day, my wife and I were driving through a parking lot, and a man on a three-wheeled bicycle (the kind with batteries - big heavy ones) had tipped over, trying to navigate the handicap ramp on the corner. He was a little old man, obviously mentally-handicapped - and - he was struggling to get the bike upright. My wife stopped our car and I ran over to help him.

The only reason I mention this is because there was a group of teen-aged girls standing RIGHT THERE....and they did nothing but stand there and stare.

Such sadness....

Not too suprising; some people think God is cruel, but, ... for example, a woman gets stabbed in the street of NYC, there are literally hundreds of people standing around and no one jumps in to help.

Apparently some think it is easier to blame God for such things than those who failed to help their fellow human being.

Jan, I would most certainly get involved; I believe we are saved by grace not works, but works are evidence that one is saved and make the world a much better place. peace to you sis.
