I am going to have my son circumcised. I dont know why people dont do it unless it is for religous reasons.

Um...

Well doctors used to think that boys should be circumcised to keep the area beneath the foreskin cleaner and less likely to become infected. It has in recent years been shown by doctors that this isn't neccessary and many families are opting to not have the procedure done. I was personally not circumsized, but I have had a few experiences with girls where lets just say I wished I had been.

No, unless it is for health reasons which are verifiable by the doctor, definitely no.
I think there should be a law against allowing the medical profession to advocate circumcision.
I have read the Bible and maybe I am Protestant. I don't believe in circumcision, my dad didn't, his cousins didn't, and they all served in the government.
There was a woman whom proposed a group be formed to oppose circumcision and I agree, although this should be done at the legislative level.

it depends, some studies show that circumsision reduces penile cancer and such.
however. the foreskin isnt just a useless piece of skin, it has function and protects the glans, and having this lets the male enjoy full sexual pleasure.
If it is a hygene issue, try a partial circumsision, where ther foreskin is half way down the glans - this provides the best of both worlds. also it allows the boy the chance to extend it in future life if he should chose to do so..

I teach kindergarten. I have had 2 boys in my career needing that done at 5 and 6. Why? Because they didn't clean themselves properly and it became infected- frequently. Young boys do not take proper care to ensure they are clean...and it's a problem.

We had our son done and he cried for no longer than a minute- I timed it from the door outside. Just make sure that if you decide to do it, add vaseline to the tip once home to ensure it doesn't reattach itself. In 2 weeks, all better!

Congrats on your new baby!

Do your research! The most recent study reveled that circumcision reduces the chance of catching HIV by up to 60%!!!

My son has been circumcised but it was for medical reasons when he was 9yr old, and it was not because he'd not cleaned it properly either....Otherwise he'd not have had it done....

No if you show him proper hygeine he will be fine. Also foreskin is their to protect the glands so it has a purpose it will also make him enjoy sex more when he is older. If god wanted men to be born circumsised he would have made them that way!We also no longer live in times were its hard to get to water or soap.As for him fiting in better i am sure there are other boys who were not circumcised just tell him to be proud his genitals were not mutiliated.

"Tradition by itself is not enough" T.S.Eliot

That's the only reason it is still done. Anythgin else, if you do your own research you will find is NOT true and NOT a valid reason. Even a group of rabbi's are now recommending against it.

This is a major decision you are makign FOR your son, please don't base it on everyone else's opnion.

Our reasons for not havign our son cut were
1-its HIS body, HIS choice. same as we teach our daughters
2-its been proven not to reduce risk of std's
3-every medical reason given has been debunked, including my favorite where once it was done to "reduce hip troubles"
4-as I said even that group of Rabii's are recommending against it
5-even with all fo teh pressure we received from older family members who refuse to accept that anything they were taught was wrong we did our own research, I beg of you to do yours and make the decision that is right for YOUR son even if it's not the same as ours was

As a guy who was circumcized as a little baby, I say no. How do they know if it hurts the baby? How could it not? They say it helps promote cleanliness, fine--so does ordinary washing. Plus it now turns out that the foreskin has lots of pleasure nerves in it, so why deny your boy what nature (or God!) intended him to have.
