"Please run play.exe."- Trouble with Conquer 3.0?

A friend of mine has just installed Directx 8. Before that, his computer said that he needed to reinstall the driver to his graphics card. After he installed Directx, he is now getting the error :"Please run play.exe."
Can anyone help me help him?
