What's the difference between 3/3 and 3-3? What do the numbers mean? I'm specifically wondering about US Army units.

What you are referring to are sub unit designations. The 3/3 would be 3rd regiment of the 3rd brigade, while 3-3 is probably something like 3rd company of the 3rd battalion.

Off the top of my head (and being in the British forces but having mates throughout the Coalition), numbers like 3-3 in the US Army refer to Battalion and Regimental numbers; in this case, 3-3 Inf would be the 3rd Battalion of the 3rd Infantry Regiment. It's an abbreviation, basically, and boy, do we like abbreviations. For an example, see the link below. Any help?

H/4/3. Headquarters Company, 4th Battlion, 3rd Brigade. This from 34 years ago at Ft Ord and still do not have stop and think about it.

they both mean the same thing just wrote different. 3rd battalion, 3rd infantry in the example you showed. 2/3 would be 2nd battalion, 3rd infantry
