Those huge grey and brown structures. Some would say beautiful structures. Do they still use them with brand new power stations?

Cooling towers are a very efficient way of cooling the recirculating water which is used to condense the steam exiting the steam turbines (which drive the electric generators) and is necessary for the efficient operation of the turbines. Power stations near the sea often use seawater but this is not available inland. If you destroyed them, which incidentally would not be easy for such large and solid structures, they would need to be replaced. Yes, they are still used for new power stations.

You and whose army?

Yes, they do need them, because generating electricity produces a lot of heat. What comes out of the towers is clouds of water vapour. No carbon dioxide, no acid rain, just water. In modern power stations much of the heat is recycled but some has to be released into the atmosphere.

It would depend on the size of the bricks (as they come in different sizes) and the size of the cooling tower. Why don't you ring Lego and ask them? They have people who have built large items and would have a far better idea than us.
