1 cup a day, however purina doesn't have a whole lot of protein in it so be careful. Feed 1/2 cup in the morning and 1/2 cup at dinner time. Because Purina is mostly fillers your cat is most likey going to be wanting more and more food and most likely get fat. If you notice that this is happening you will need to switch to a higher quality food. Also to correct one person's answer, kittens should NOT be getting wet food until they are 8 mths. Where did that come from? Kittens need to get kitten food until they are 1 yr old and it should be dry, especially after they are 4 mths old.

It means 1 cup for the entire day. Split it up into two 1/2 cup servings and feed him twice a day. Now, these are just guidelines, and not carved in stone to apply to every cat. At 6 months old, he may need a little more than this. But, if this little guy is a glutton and gobbles it all up at one time--well, that's just too bad, he's going to have to wait until next feeding time. You CAN give him a few kitty treats to supplement in between. Just don't increase this amount to 1 cup at each feeding or you'll have a big "fatty" on your hands in no time. Then you'll have to spend all the extra $$$ to buy the low calorie, low fat (I'm sure low taste) stuff in order to get the weight off of him. Better to do it right the first time around. Hope this helps you.

They just don't want you to starve your pet by not putting out enough.
If you free feed (keep dry food in the bowl all day where they can reach it) then you don't have to worry, the cat eats when they want to.
If you have a cat that eats constantly and is getting too fat way too fast, then you go by how much they'll eat when you offer them the food bowl every 4 hours. They'll eat what they need, then walk away--you put the food bowl up where they can't get to it and bring it down 4 hours later and offer it again.
My big 15 pound guy only eats half a cup of dry food a day, plus 2 tablespoons of wet food. My 8 pound cat eats a quarter cup a day plus 4 tablespoons of raw ground turkey. I don't have any cat that could stuff down a whole cup of food in one day, every day, so the feeding charts are only a guideline till you know how much your pet actually does eat.

It means you should feed your kitten one cup of food each day. Since my kitty apparently has a bottomless stomach, I feed him 1/2 cup in the morning while I'm having breakfast and then feed him the second 1/2 cup in the evening when I'm having dinner. This kills two birds with one stone - not only does it keep him from eating ALL the food at once in the morning, but it keeps him from trying to eat all my food too while I'm eating!!

One cup daily means the total of one cup in one day.
So if you want to give her 1/2 cup in the morning and 1/2 cup in the evening, go for it.

a day ;usuallly means a 24 hour period... personally i think it should be 1/2 cup in the morning and then 1/2 cup in the evening and use wet food also, it gives more moisture for your kitten..kitten formula of course.

You pretty much answered your own question while you were asking it. You are supposed to feed the kitten 1 cup each day, split into different feedings. So if you feed him 3x's per day, you'd give him 1/3cup each feeding.
